GB AND MB difference in computer memory?

Question

1GB is how much MB?
The latop I think of buying says the memory has to be at least 1GBto be capable with windows vista premium opreating system.

In the site it doesn't say GBs It has these in MB like 512 MB, 1024 MB.

is 1GB is same as 1024 MB?

1 GB (or Giga Byte) = 1024 MB (Mega Byte).

if you r interested, u can read the following:

In our daily life, we say units like Meter, Kilo meter, Centi meter, Or Ton, Kilo Ton, Mega Ton etc. The same way we measure amount of Digital Data in terms of Bits or Bytes.

8 Bit = 1 Byte
1024 Byte = 1 Kilo Byte (Or KB)
1024 Kilo Byte = 1 Mega Byte (Or MB)
1024 Mega Byte = 1 Giga Byte (Or GB)
1024 Giga Byte = 1 Tera Byte (Or TB) ...etc

now, u may wonder why 1024, why not 1000 in round figure. Because every digital calculation is done in terms of power of 2. and 1000 is not any exact power of 2. 1024 is nearest of 1000 which is 10th power of 2. (2^10=1024).

And yes, if you buy a laptop or desktop with 1GB of RAM, you may find a little less ram installed when u use your operating system to query about the amount of physical memory installed. Because some of the physical memory is dedicatedly reserved for the graphics cards in some systems (Typically 8 MB to 128 MB). Its not that your vendor has actually installed less.

dude 1 Gb is the same as 1024 Mb but although it says 1024 Mb in those sites when u actually buy it u will see that it doesnt exactly have that amount of Mbs.

1 GB is 1000 MB.
1 GiB is 1024 MiB.
It's confusing and really not too important, but in memory, RAM, what you're talking about 1 GB means 1024 MB, but in a hard drive, it is 1000. Why? Well... look at source. It explains it. For your purposes, just know it's about 1000.
