What are some ways to take care of it? I heard you're not supposed to turn off the computer but the battery life on this is really bad and I don't wanna keep the charger plugged in all the time. At night I just put it in hibernate or stand by. Is this better than turning it off? I really love my laptop and hope to maintain it as long as possibe. :)

I bought my notebook march about a year and a half ago. Recently it had problems running off of just the ac adapter. After an hour and a half on the phone with them, they decided i need to replace my mother board and it will cost $350 to do so. Any opinons on whether it's worth it? Or any ideas why a mother board would go bad after so little time?

when i had my wireless network set up the guy also set it up so my laptop along with the desktop both were connected to the printer..my printer had a mini meltdown the other day and now i can not print from the laptop...anyone know an easy way to fix this..i really don't want the geek squad to come back and charge me a fortune to do this

For some reason, the ethernet port on my laptop is not functioning. I just purchased a wireless router, and according to
the instructions for setup I need to at some point in the process connect the router to my computer. I heard somewhere a while back that there is a way to set up the wireless router without connecting the router to my computer AND without using the intallation software the router came with. I am however able to connect to the internet with a USB cable, but my router (and all other routers in the store) do not have a USB connection port.

From what I can gather, it has something to do with typing a generic IP address into a web browser or something.

CAN ANYONE HELP!!!!

Any advise is GREATLY appreciated.

After installing DVD Maker Plus on my computer using their CD, my laptop suddenly failed to recognize my DVD driver. I was trying to transfer analog movies to DVD's. I made a copy of one and put it on my computer but when I went to put it on DVD it wasn't there. The website of Pinnacle software who makes this says that sometimes the CD/DVD will get turned off. Their solution is to go into the registry and make a change. I am very afraid of making any changes in the registry. Has anyone ever had his happen?

i need help in purchasing a laptop, i will be using it mainly for downloading music, storing pictures, internet, watching movies and basic entertainment. I don't really know what kind of memory or specs to look for i also don't know what brands? I have this basic Compaq Presario c300 and I was wondering how can I improve the overall speed. It is currently equiped with 512mb ram as intended by manufacturer. If I remove the 512 and put a good brand 2gig in there instead, will it change much. Would I also be able to change the CPU from a 1.7gig to something faster?
