Hey there,

I have been teaching computers for over 15 years now. There is no such thing as good and cheap in the same sentence.

In the technology world, you always get what you pay for, end of story.

I have all but given up on giving computer purchase advice because most people buy with their pocket book and not with their mind.

Imagine this, you have a family of 6, you, your spouse and 4 teenagers. Would you ever buy a Yugo or Ford festiva? NO WAY. Why? It doesn't fit your needs. It might fit what you can afford though. So you buy it. Then you get mad at the dealership, Ford, and whomever else recommened the car to you.

Sit down, take a look at what you want to do with the laptop, and then make your decision. Know this, if your ideas of what you want your laptop to do or to run, it may not work for you.

Try freecycle. It's an email listing for those that are getting rid of stuff for free. You can also ask for wanted items. Sometimes people will upgrade to a better laptop, but unsure of what to do with the old one. This is how I found one for my Autistic son.
http://www.freecycle.org

When you get to the site look at the left hand side and find your local area. It's free to sign up and use, plus everything posted there is free only. If anyone ever emails you that their willing to sell you something, report them to the person over the listing.

Good luck.
