I don't think it hurts to have it on all the time. But I think it might be good to restart once a day, or every other day.

You should be fine. With older versions of Windows the memory management wasn't very good, so the longer Windows was up the slower it got, and eventually everything would just freeze. Rebooting would fix the issue. Windows XP does a better job of managing memory, and I have run for several days at a time without a restart and never noticed it slowing down or freezing. I leave all of my machines (three desktops and a laptop presently) on 24/7 and don't notice a significant down side to it.

I would recommend keeping the laptop on all the time, because during startup more parts are being used than during normal use and therefore more wear and tear is done to your system.
The only thing that you can do to possibly lengthen your laptop's life (while still keeping it constantly on) is making sure that it is in a cool area and nothing is covering it. Heat is your not your laptop's friend! :)

It shouldn't hurt it.
I'd restart it once a day or every other day just to help make sure the memory is getting cleared out properly, etc.

I figured, if you're not using it, then you don't need it on, right? My sister leaves hers on all of the time, which I don't think is good, but I haven't seen anything wrong with her laptop so...I guess it's not that big of a deal.

There is nothing wrong with it, your not hurting it in fact its better to leave it on than it is to turn it on and off all the time. When you turn your comp on you heat up its parts, then you turn it off and they cool back down again, thats alot of expanding when its cold and despanding when it gets hot.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
