The Core Solo and Core Duo are both laptop only processors. They are not really even part of the brand new core microarchitecture, they use the old netburst that was used on Pentium 4/Ds and Pentium Ms, they are just a bit newer. Solo has one core, duo has 2. The Core 2 Duos come in both laptop and desktop versions, and use the new core microarchitecture which is much faster and more energy efficient than the old.

Ummm, I don't think that the core duo comes in a solo version.

The difference between the duo and the duo 2 is that the duo 2s are generally more powerful, as they are a "continuation" of the duo series.
