I bought my notebook march about a year and a half ago. Recently it had problems running off of just the ac adapter. After an hour and a half on the phone with them, they decided i need to replace my mother board and it will cost $350 to do so. Any opinons on whether it's worth it? Or any ideas why a mother board would go bad after so little time?

The problem... the computer won't run when i have the ac adapter attached(i get this black screen with a flashing - at the top left hand corner), it will run on the battery. It will also charge the battery, which seems to signal that its not a problem with the adapters or anything.

I had the mb replaced on my Inspiron after about a year and a half, as well. It worked for my problem. *shrug* It works just fine now, and I've had it for three years.

motherboard can go bad due to many reasons like fauly port, high voltageetc..more explaination of the problem is needed...may be the technicians are rite...if the notebook is not running with the ac adapter...hv u tried to replace the ac adapter..the port which connects the adapter to the notebook shoudnt be faulty or nonfunctional and if it is then motherboard should be replaced...if the system runs well with only battery then u can check with a new adapter which fits well on the port..may be that can work....

sounds like the power supply. At a cost of $350 I would pull the HDD out and put it in a usb case and buy a new laptop but no a Dell. HP and Sony are my personal favs but it is realy up to you.

no actually the cost isnt worth it and I would suggest saving up to get a laptop with more programs in-built..

the reason why dell is cheaper is cause you pay for the components that you want and not necessarily what you need...
