I am running on Windows XP and have run into some problems with viruses. My friend suggested I wipe my hard drive. I have found software to do so (Active Kill Disk- http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm)

I have read over the manual and it suggested before using the software the following should be done:

Will I be able to use my Hard Disk Drive after Active@ KillDisk erase
operation?
To be able to use HDD again you need to:
• -Repartition the hard drive using a standard utility like FDISK.
• -Reformat partitions using a standard utility like FORMAT.
• -Reinstall the Operating System using a bootable CD-ROM.

How exactly do I do all that?

Do I perform those operations AFTER I use the Kill Disk software and then pop in my same Windows XP CD to re-install the OS?

have AVG virus-scan and spyware software and Zone Alarm. All are free...but i still have like 30 trojans on my computer...
because of these I can't access my "Control Panel" or other options to get access to my "C" drive.

I work at a supermarket, so I honestly don't have a whole lot of money to work with right now. I own a lot of music software like: FL Studio, Orion Basic, Cakewalk, etc.

#1 (Which one of these (memories) is the better one)

3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 DIMMs

OR

4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 4 DIMMs

Please note that one is 4GB and the other is 3GB, BUT the "MHz" is different... so which one is better? I need to know so I can get the better one of the two. Thanks.......

#2 (Which one of these (processors) is the better one?)

Intel® Core™2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB)

OR

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6850 (4MB L2 Cache,3.0GHz,1333 FSB)

Thanks!
P.S. The processor and memory would be for a WINDOWS VISTA computer. If that means anything.

I've just upgraded system from 2 x 512Mb + 1 x 1G memory cards to 3 x 1G memory cards. on reboot my system audit shows 1.5G memory, DIMM 1 - 512MB and DIMM 3 1024MB. My system should support 3G of memory.
What's happened and what do I need to do to rectify?

Is there a way to find out what part of your computer/what files, are using up most of your memory? I have 180GB Hard Drive, and only 38.5 GB left. I don't know what is using it all. I only have a few games and a few movies........so what could be eating up all my Hard Drive space?

Need to move a file bigger than a floppy can handle from an old Windows 98 PC. No CD burner, no ethernet port. Not connected to internet.

This is just a dumb machine we keep the companuy books on, and did not want that machine hooked to the internet where it could be hacked.

Tried a USB Thumb drive, but it did not work. The OS was too old.

Looking to do this for zero cost. Any ideas?

Ok don't laugh.....but I am not very savvy when it comes to understanding computers. I DO have a desktop PC at home with dial up internet service, but the thing is........... I want to buy a new laptop and get wireless internet service. I have read a few articles online about WiFi etc but it's all technical mumbo jumbo that seems confusing. I want the kind of wireless internet that allows me to connnect from just about anywhere. Even the beach. I need to know how to chose a laptop that is comaptible with wireless service. Also, where do I go in order to GET the wireless service? Do I ask for WiFi or are there other alternatives? What are "hotspots" all about? Would I even need a "hotspot"? Do I need some sort of a "card"? or "box"? I'm just clueless when it comes to this sort of thing. Can someone please explain in simple terms? I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks!

Hello,
I read on the internet and on here some of the answers, about using Acronis to do this.

but. im still not sure about how to do it.
I have 28GB that I need to move to the second hard drive, and I need it to stay untouched, as in programs, files, everything AS IS, registry and all.

so what if I create a 28GB image, that wouldn't really help me would it?...

can I do this:
1) create the 28GB image
2) connect the 2nd hard drive
3) install the 28GB image to the second hard drive using WinXP from the first hard drive (this should also take the registry with it right?)
4) remove the first hard drive and boot from second.

thanks

Hey, I would like some good information on starting to build my own PC. It seems like the best way to go. Where can I find a good 'barebones' system, and where can I find all the other materials for pretty cheap? Is FRYS electronics a good place to go?

thanks
