my compaq presario m2000 will not burn a dvd but it burns cds?

Check the spec sheet for your serial number of the Compaq Presario M2000. Some M-2000's come with a DVD player and a CD+RW burner and not a DVD burner make sure your specific machine has the DVD burner.

The web site shows that it is .. Available with integrated DVD, DVD+/-RW, or combo drives

If it does then all you should need is a burnable DVD and the correct software.

Does your computer have the hardware required to burn DVD's? You can't burn a DVD using just a CD burner. Now I know most models of DVD burners can burn cd's as well. Might want to check that.
