I upgraded the bios on my dell 4700c from A02 to latest version A07 and now I'm getting a Incompatible Processor Detected error and the system does not boot. Is there a way to downgrade the bios?

As soon as the computer is turned on the Incompatible Processor Detected error screen comes up and does not give me a chance to boot into the bios.

The cpu is a P4 - 3.4GHZ

There is usually a jumper configuration to clear or reset the rom.
Search the model # of your mother board on google.
Or just look on the board for a set of jumpers. Usualy you remove it and boot up...you get a series of beeps.......then shut down.....put it back on and it is reset.

Not all boards are made this way though.

Some of the older ones you had to remove the battery with the power unplugged to clear it.

The trick to getting it working again was to remove the button cell battery on the motherboard for a minute or so and then replace it. When you power on the machine you will be asked to go into setup and set the date and time. After doing this my machine would boot with A02. The problem is that if you ever remove the power cable, or switch off at the wall, then your 4700c won’t boot again and it will give the “Incompatible processor detected!” message again. I found this out the hard way. So while I had a working machine I downloaded the A02 version of the BIOS from ftp.us.dell.com and installed it. After this my machine is fully functional again.

See Above. Good information. Usually the book that game in the box containing your board (which people usually throw away. Why. I don't know) has the info that is needed to do this.
