Well if it's not software then it's likely to be a PSU problem. How old is your computer?

Had the same problem with my old computer, kept rebooting when it got hot and then one day it burned out. If you leave the side panel off and point a fan into the comp, should be a short term fix. Then get yourself a new PSU.

Assuming Windows XP....

Right click on the My Computer icon
Select Properties
Go to the Advanced tab
Click on the Settings button in the Start up and Recovery area
About 2/3 of the way down is a check box under System Failure that says "Automatically Restart". Uncheck that box.

If that box is checked, any "serious" error in Windows will cause the PC to restart, rather then displaying the appropriate error message. (And almost everything is considered "serious".)

Unchecking the box will not solve the problem, but it should cause the error to be displayed rather then rebooting. Once you can see what is causing the problem, you can resolve it.

Go to Compaq's website and make sure you have the latest drivers for your system.

Go to Windowsupdate.com and make sure you have all of the latest updates for Windows.

If it's still giving you trouble, it's probably something in your msconfig startup. Turn off everything that is turned off in safemode, and add things until it gives you the same problem again. That will allow you to isolate the problem.
