Okay. I was playing my game like usual when suddenly, my computer crashed. I restarted it and found that my computer had "reformated". My Documents, Pictures, Recieved Files and Songs were are gone. Only a few downloaded files were still there. However, I used Searched and found them. So I went to chat with my friend. However, as usual, my com hanged. So I went to eat dinner and restarted it. however this time, the whole thing was the same as before it crashed the first time but only problem is, My Documents, Songs, My recieved folders were all really gone! I can't find them. I only found all my songs in my windows media player but they can't work as the files are missing. Later I asked my friend to send me some songs. But it asked me to choose a specific folder. I Chose My Documents but instead of the Save Button, it still was the Open Button. When i Created a new folder it's still the same.
Please someone help me! I need my songs back :(

OK here's the deal. It's time for me to build a new computer since it's been about 3 or 4 years since I built the one I'm using now and it's showing it's age. This machine will mainly be used for gaming and watching DVD's, maybe even HD TV watching but we'll see on that one. Also I'll expect it to run any new games that come out for the next 3 years or so. It will start out as a Windows XP machine but after a year or so I'll probably upgrade to Vista.

Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Processor Q6600 2.4Ghz
Intel® D975XBX2LKR Intel® 975X
Socket LGA775 ATX Motherboard Memorex 18x Multi Format DVD Recorder
MEMOREX 52X32X52X CDRW Internal
Seagate 750GB Serial ATA/300 16MB Buffer
Would you recommend 2Gb or 4Gb of 800 mhz DDR2 memory? And is an Intel Core 2 Extreme processor that much better than the one I picked?

I recently installed an online game, played it, it thouroughly screwed up my computer, so I uninstalled it, but still have many strange problems. For instance, when I start my computer, the background picture comes up and for about 3 minutes that's all that comes up... not the icons, not toolbar, nothing. I can still summon task manager with ctrl+alt+delete, but still cannot access any programs or icons. Along with that, the computer is just generally acting weird. So I heard System Restore was a good idea. I tried that, but no matter what date I choose it always says "could not complete system restore" or something along those lines. Could anyone please tell how to force system restore or something or perhaps another way to fix the problems I've been having? Thanks for reading all of that.

So can you please help me with my DELL INSPIRON 531 desktop.
And if i want to upgrade to a better graphics card compatiable with this pc, which one would u recommend and would i have to increase the power supply if i get a really good graphics card. If i want to keep my 300watts power supply then which graphics card would you recommend me. And would adding 2X512 memory ram to my pc increase power consumption.

I am considering purchasing a new motherboard/processor and I see there are lots of them now that say 64 (with the old ones and the one I have now being 32).

I play a couple of mmorpg's like WOW and mostly just surf the internet and check email, should I really put out the extra money for a 64 or will I not see that much of a difference?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I think it's new, it's able to stay until 2007, which can be very long lasting.

When I turn my computer on it turns off immediately. It was doing this on occasion, but now it is as soon as I turn it on.

What could this be?

I do not have the cover on the computer (long story...but I thought that might be an issue)

Let me know any ideas you might have. I will appreciate any and all responses!

Is there any problem if my pc is turned on 45 days.

I have got a Genuine Intel Pentium4 @ 3.00Ghz 3.00Ghz

1GB Ram and 80 GB Hard disk.

Would there be any problems if the pc is turned on for that long time ???

The maximum RAM that would be used by applications would be around 55%. About 20% of my HD is also free.

But even though it says that its a 2.0 usb it doesn't work for 2.0 drives like my ipod. When ever I plug my ipod it says "This device can preform faster...click this to see 2.0 ports" So I do and it gives me a list of ports that are hi-speed and 2.0 but the thing is that where can I go or what do I do to plug it into those ports they are showing me because I only have 3 USB ports on my Vaio and all of them are set to the same speed (1.0-1.1). So what can I do so I can have my USB ports a 2.0? Also I was reading some articles and they were saying change BIOS settings to Hi-Speed instead of Full-Speed. How can I go into BIOS?
