I am considering purchasing a new motherboard/processor and I see there are lots of them now that say 64 (with the old ones and the one I have now being 32).

I play a couple of mmorpg's like WOW and mostly just surf the internet and check email, should I really put out the extra money for a 64 or will I not see that much of a difference?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

No one has really hit the main point here, this isn't a choice you need to think about, because it really isn't even a choice. First off motherboard has nothing to do with 64 or 32 bit, its only the processor. As for processors, all the AMD Athlon 64s are quite obviously 64 bit, as are Intels Core 2 Duos, Pentium Ds, and even some Pentium 4s are 64 bit. So, if you buy a new processor, it WILL be 64 bit, so its not even a choice.

64 bit is the wave of the future, saying that it's definitely not very feasable now especially if you're going to just surf the web and do basic stuff. A lot of things (possibly including games like WoW) are incompatable so far with 64 bit so I'd stick with 32 for at least a couple more years since you don't need anything fancy or ultra high tech.

Newer programs in the near future will require 64 bit and will not work in 32 bit. Also hardware such as newer CPU 's require
64 bits. Windows Vista performs best on 64 bit motherboards.
The difference is speed much faster.

Get a 64 bit cause you'll end up getting one anyways in the near future so why not do it now and save some $$$

The market will make many people believe that they need 64-bit processors. However, there are very few business processes that really need them.

I know from experience that the average user doesn't put a dent in a computer's true capability. If they are using it, it's usually a matter of poor configurations degrading their system performance, while the power allows them to get away with it---for a while, anyway..

It won't be long (2-3 years?) before there are applications that will entice us all to upgrade. But I believe it's smarter to wait until the requirement goes up and the prices come down before upgrading to these muscle machines.

I consider myself to be a power-user (I am), and I manage to handle my business quite well with 32-bits. I certainly don't spend my money to play games.

ok, the 64 bit motherboards as well as the processor works more faster because the computer becomes HyperThreading or Multitasking, and yes you'll see a lot of difference specially with Windows Vista, the Morphs you're playing, etc., and if you want the whole Enchilada you'll have to purchase extra RAM memory at least 1Gb, but if you don't have that Richy Rich feeling, or you're not thinking on editing video or using your computer like a entertainement center, saty with the one you have.

It depends, are you planning on using the puter for a long time or are you just going to buy one every 2 1/2 years. I highly recommend going with the 64, it is not a requirement for games now, but it will be soon. It is worth the extra 50-100 bucks, and gives your puter more life.
a side note be weary of buying from mainstream places, check out www.newegg.com and www.tigerdirect.com

from what you mentioned in your question, all you need to a 32-bit system.
