I have found coolwebsearch on my computer, and despite all anti-virus and other utilities apparently 'wiping' it away, i think it is still there. I want to wipe the hard drive completely.

I use E-machines computer and have 3x Recovery disks. How do i do this? I have tried to run from start-up, and even open the first disc via D:drive, but it won't do it. Cheers :)

Is there anything I can do to make it faster like the ram. Or can I get another motherboard thats faster. I not really a computer person so im kinda lost. Also what determines the speed of the computer? What should I do?

I was having some problems with random program crashes for about a week so I decided to reinstall XP. The installation went fine but now my Sound Card doesn't work. I have downloaded the latest drivers and during installation it says "Hardware device not recognized" or something to that effect. The Card is in the same PCI slot that it has always been in since the day I bought it, but just for kicks I moved it to a different one.

In all the PCI slots the card gets recognized in the BIOS but when windows completely boots up to desktop, XP doesn't recognize any new hardware that needs to be installed. I have tried to do a manual installation without success also.

I doubt the card has gone bad, any other ideas I should try?

Dell P4 3.6Ghz
2gigs DDR2 Ram
250gig HD
Nvidia 6800 GFX card
Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Audio card
(never had a problem with it before today)

E.G. Powersupply I think has a fan and maybe there are some quieter power supplies I can buy that wont be as loud.

I have been searching for sometime now for the best gaming computer on the market. I have looked at Compaq, HP, Gateway, Dell, and Alienware. I felt Alienware was probably the most expenisve, and Gateway had the best deal, but i'm not sure which one would be a better gaming computer. Anybody have any idea with these companies or can suggest the best place to get this style computer. Or is there anywhere else there are good, strong gaming computers? I want the best graphics and most memory, plus best processor. Also if you could tell me what the current best processors and video cards on the market are now I would be grateful. It's been ages sinced I computer shopped and i'm way out of the loop now (you know how fast the business changes). Thanks for all the help for anyone who answers!! One final note, I want a desktop, not a notebook computer.

It's not true. At least not entirely. Not 'all' PC's are crud. Vista or Windows does not come up with BSOD's all the time, have viruses popping up ever 10 mintues, runs slowly all the time, or none of that. It's a big lie.

If you run a cheap PC (under $850, from Dell or HP), no anti-virus program (or one download from the internet), and have cheap internet connection, then yes, you are living in the PC hell.

But if you buy a high-end/mid-range PC (Sony Vaio, LG, Samsung, some HP, some Dell), have a strong anti-virus program (Windows Live OneCare, Norton 360), and have high-speed internet connection (hopefully there's a router), then you're not going to have any problems.

Vista is not always to blame on itself. Get a high-end PC and you'll have no performance problems. Some things aren't compatible because that company doesn't want it too, not MS.

Over all, it's a big lie. Get a high-end system, good anti-virus, fast connection and you're set.

So what do you think?

Macs are so not easy to use. I know how to use it alright, but some parts still don't make sense to me. For a newbie, to any computer, macs are had to use, compared to Windows.

Once you do get it though, then it's easy. But for the most part, I've heard many people complain that it's too difficult to use for general computing. My aunt is an IT worker, and even she finds macs not suitable for herself. I've heard lots of friends say that they'd rather switch back to Windows, and only a few that said they liked it.

So I have to say this: The myth that OS X is very easy to use, is a complete lie. I've heard people from across the country even said this, so that makes it official.

So what do you mac users have to say?

I have an all-in-one "Hitachi" computer I was trying to restore. I was able to turn this PC "ON", but then when I was about to install a program it won't power up, not even a light on the power switch on the front panel, I'm not hearing any sound or sensing breeze coming out of the power supply fan.. I opened up the whole thing just to be sure if the power supply itself is receiving electricity... I was sure it was always set into 220V, tried to connect the power cable and checked if the power supply fan would work just to see if it's a RAM or motherboard or any problem with the system, but no power at all. No light, no sound, no indication that the whole thing is receiving electricity, like the computer is dead or something... Is this a power supply problem, tried three power cables, all power sockets and still computer's not powering up... Does it matter because this PC is using an AT power supply...
