One, do not remove anymore screws. you shouldn't have to remove the power supply to get the hard drive out..
Most cases, unless they're much older, should have ONE thumbscrew, on the back of the computer that, when unscrewed, will let you remove the cover..
I would suggest, however, that you talk to a friend who's a bit more computer savvy, because I fear you're about to mess that one up.

You want to put those screws back, and find at least 2-4 other screws that are on the back of the case.
Probably, after removing them, the case will slide off the back end.
The person who mentioned "one thumb screw" is right, but that is usually not applicable to manufactured PC's, like Compaq.
The "fan" you mentioned, is actually the back end of the power supply. You would not need to remove that in order to remove the case. After, if you wanted, yes, but not before.
EDIT:
also, DO NOT drill those studs out, whatever they happen to be.
Cases are meant to be taken off, and it should be fairly simple.

I had a Compaq 5220 so I'll bet your opens the same way mine did there are 5 or 7 (3 or 4 on either side and 1 on top) screws. that are on the back of your computer that hold the cover on take them out and the cover should slide right off.

It all depends on the model.
There are usually screws in the back sides of your computer. Each side has two or three screws that will allow a side panel to come off.
There are several cases I've seen were the sides and top are attached and come off as one unit. There are also cases where you must pop off the front cover before you can take off the sides and top.
