I have been searching for sometime now for the best gaming computer on the market. I have looked at Compaq, HP, Gateway, Dell, and Alienware. I felt Alienware was probably the most expenisve, and Gateway had the best deal, but i'm not sure which one would be a better gaming computer. Anybody have any idea with these companies or can suggest the best place to get this style computer. Or is there anywhere else there are good, strong gaming computers? I want the best graphics and most memory, plus best processor. Also if you could tell me what the current best processors and video cards on the market are now I would be grateful. It's been ages sinced I computer shopped and i'm way out of the loop now (you know how fast the business changes). Thanks for all the help for anyone who answers!! One final note, I want a desktop, not a notebook computer.

The intel processor is probably the best one on the market for gaming. Compaq and Gateway PC's tend to have a lot of hardware issues. For gaming, I would decide between Alienware and Dell. Many people get the false impression that Alienware Pc's are better due to the fact they seem to cater more to the things gamers desire like naming the colors of the their computer cases junk like alien skin gray. On top of this, I've heard many a horror story about the absolute terrible support from tell. Things like..."I bought my PC online and when it wasn't delivered a week after the estimated date of arrival, I called and found they hadn't even started building it yet." Dell on the other hand tends to be very timely and will have your new PC at your door in a week, depending on the componenets you choose. If it were up to me and I had the money to do it...I would chose a dell and just go through the customization process online for their Dell XPS gaming series. To me, that is the best PC you can get for you dollar.

For online gaming there are few specs MOST important

FSB / mem access speed virtual and physical

Video card compliant with GLI 1.5 MIN
and very high triangles/sec rate

Online games are memory hogs and Windows loads more
as you add more memory so gains are not as expected
768 meg is a bare bones gamer expect swap file use
1 meg is a tad better by still in most games expect zone changes to produce virtual memory swap file use
2meg about the best solution if you intend to game alot
can still experiance virtual file swap access just less often

Most important above Processor speed is speed of
physical memory and harddrive access FSB

with Graphics is simply triangles/sec MMO's use 3 models
that means triangle count a single avatar can have 4000 or more .. no add all the people you see with the buildings and tress etc in view
triangles/sec get a big number/sec

The best processor out right now is the X6800, but if you wait just a little bit, the E6850 will come out at just slightly over a quarter of the price with better performance is probably better overclocking potiential.

I'd suggest you go to a smaller manufacturer like Cyberpowerpc.com, or determine what specs you want and go to Newegg.com and try to find the the closest match. From what you said it seems the 2nd option is the best. Very few places overclock, and the places that do way overcharge for it.

I can't really suggest anything without knowing your budget.

Gaming performance is a lot more dependent on the graphics card. Be sure to get Nvidia's 8800GTX or Ultra. The best processor to pair with that card is Intel's Core2 Extreme X6800. This might be helpful as reference (my dream machine):

For the best on the market, check into: Polywell....Velocity Miro...CyberPower...Overdrive PC...
All these will build a pc just for you, depending on what you want. Or they have prebuilts that are the best of the best, using all the latest and fastest stuff. They are also quite expensive, but you did say the best on the market!!!
