Pentium 4HT upgrage to core2duo?

i want to upgrade my pentium4 hyperthreading to a core2duo processor but i am worried about compatibility,

i know the socket is the same(775) but core2duo doesnt take hyperthreading (i can turn it off).....

but can i use a core2duo prcessor in there?

Only if your motherboard supports Core2 Duo. If your motherboard's BIOS is 2005 or older, chances are it would not recognize C2 Duo because it only came out in early 2006.
