Hardware - November 2007

I want to get a laptop at a reasonable price. I want it to run at a decent speed with good graphics. But I don't know which kind of laptop I should get!?! This is my first laptop that I am getting and I want to get a good one. I also want one that is thin and light and that has a decent size screen. If you know one please tell me! And also what else should I get when I get a laptop? What add ons should I get?

Which one do you prefer? Which one do you think this better? I'm getitng on for Christmas. (: So I'm just wondering which one is better. I'm `14 btw, and I want otstart using like the programs, myf riend has the 17 inch and I LOVE it. ANy adivce is appreciatd!!

that but I would upgrade the ram to 2 gig by buying some more for 30 dollars. But that laptop only has 80 gig and windows vista basic. I've been doing my research, but i'm still not sure.
I don't know the exact name of the model of my imac...

What i know for sure is this.

imac, 17".
Processor: 1.83 GHZ intel core duo
Memory: 512 mb DDR2 SDRAM, speed 667 MHz

I'm confused about the number of pins it should have, and also about the DIMM or SODIMM, i have no idea what those things mean! or which one my imac should have.
Also, i don't knw the difference between PC-3200 and PC2-5300 memory modules... i have read that both are compatible.

I have a HP PSC All in One 1400 Series that works well except that when i scan documents it does not save them to a microsoft word document, they are opened in wordpad. Can some one tell me how to get my scanned documents opened in word.

When I start up my Vista Laptop, I get several error messages when I get to my desktop. These messages say the same thing:
Sound Card not found. Unable to do streaming!
This is from something called Virtual Sound Drive. I have no problem with my sound at all and with streaming but this is a little annoying when it pops up.

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

I just bought two 22" LCD monitors on put them on my glass desk. I have a keyboard tray with my keyboard and mouse on them. Whenever I type, the monitors shake because of the cheap keyboard tray. Even when I put the keyboard on the glass where the monitors are sitting they still shake. Anybody have any ideas as to how to secure them better so they don't wobble around when I type? It's annoying!

I'm looking for a store that would sell the cheapest laptop. I'm not going to have anything installed on the computer or get insurance or anything like that. What store has a good laptop deal? Normal price? Holiday sales price? Do you think I could transfer my internet connection to the laptop for free? Is there a router range you have to be in for the laptop to work? When I am at work, I can send email but when at home, I get an error message that says:

Whenever i switch the power on,the fan starts but there's no display in monitor.Both the red as well as green leds at the front of cpu glows simultaneously and there is neither a beep.I checked my harddisk drive,it works fine in another computer. My doubt was on the power supply unit but the mechanic claims the motherboard to be faulty. I just bought my computer 4 months before.I've put in enough money into it and really can't afford to invest this amount again this soon. My motherboard is "intel 945G series".How can i know where's the problem exactly?Any suggestions to repair my computer or anything useful related to this specific case. So if any one can help me please do so as i really need it.Waiting!

Two months ago an incident of power failure happened while I was working on a word document. Eversince, whenever I use word or scroll a lot in a word document, my computer suddenly shuts down. This was been going on, since past two days I get a message on my screen which says, "WARNING!CPU has been changed or CPU ratio changed fail, re-enter the CPU settings in CMOS setup before you quit!"

what is this message asking me to do and what do you think is wrong with my computer. I've been conned a lot by these computer engineers so I don't want to consult any unless emergency, please guide, me what is wrong with my computer and what can I do?

I own a Toshiba Satellite for almost 3 years and it is having all kinds of hardware and software issue. At work we are using HP and works very good but maybe it is becasue I cannot install many things on the work computer and it is not moving so much with me.

Now I want to buy a new laptop and the main question is; is there such thing as a most problem free laptop brand? If this was a question for cars, I would reply Toyota or VW or Mercedes. If there is I will prefer that brand even if it is more expensive.

I asked the question to laptop repairing guy, that I know thanks to my Toshiba and he tells me all laptops are the same as they are manufactured in same factories with same components. Branding is just marketing. I wonder if it is true.
