The actual computer its self, say 6-10 feet away?

However I would need to extend the cable running from the monitor into the computer?

The wireless keyboard and mouse are obviously no problem.

VGA or DVI extension cables are readily available, so a 6ft extension cable would hopefully give you enough slack to route the cable appropriately. You can get longer extensions.

However, A poor quality VGA extension cable can can cause problems on the screen. Noise, smearing or ghosting of the image are all common problems. Get a good quality cable. As a rule of thumb thicker is better. Good cables are more expensive, but unfortunately not all expensive cables are good. I would buy from a local store and make sure they have a reasonable return policy.

There's no reason why not. The only time you need access to the box is when you are turning it on and off and when you need to access the CD/DVD drives or connect USB devices. I think many people hide the actual boxes away in cupboards but leave the keyboard, mouse and monitor accessible.

As long as you have some way of connecting the monitor to the computer then yes it's fine.

There's no reason why you can't have the computer itself in another room if you so wish!!

If you've got the cables or wireless to do it, it's ok to do whatever you want, it's your computer!
