Whenever i switch the power on,the fan starts but there's no display in monitor. Both the red as well as green leds at the front of cpu glows simultaneously and there is neither a beep.I checked my harddisk drive,it works fine in another computer. My doubt was on the power supply unit but the mechanic claims the motherboard to be faulty. I just bought my computer 4 months before.I've put in enough money into it and really can't afford to invest this amount again this soon. My motherboard is "intel 945G series".How can i know where's the problem exactly?Any suggestions to repair my computer or anything useful related to this specific case. So if any one can help me please do so as i really need it.Waiting!

Open the case an make sure all connectors and cards are in place. If everything is in place and you hear no beeps the problem is in the motherboard.A single beep means everything is OK ,more than one beeps mean that an add-on is incompatible or not seated properly. It would be helpful if you had a multimeter so you can check the connectors if you have the correct voltage. Then you would know for sure the power supply is OK. Another thing you can try is remove the CMOS battery (the one that looks like a big calculator battery) for 3 minutes and put it back.
Before you touch anything inside the case ground your self by touching the power supply.

Could you provide more details? Did the computer successfully completed the RAM check? Was the POST test completed?

I think the problem is an add-on card or peripheral might be causing the problem. When a computer boots up, it will run a check on all add-on cards (PCI cards, graphic cards, sound cards...etc.) and/or peripheral. If there is a problem with one or more add-ons, the computer will freeze. Try this, with the computer off, disconnect all the peripherals on your computer (e.g. printer, external hard drive...etc. Once everything is disconnected, try booting your computer again. If it boots up successfully, reconnect the peripherals one at a time while the computer is on - I assume you have Plug and Play service activated. If this doesn't work, remove the computer case and start disconnecting any add-on cards.

Remove one add-on card at a time and try rebooting again. Start by removing the graphic card then move on to the PCI cards (e.g. wireless adapter, USB port hub,...etc.)

If it doesn't reboot then the problem might lie with either the power supply or the RAM. Since you bought the computer less than 4 months ago, your service contract should provide free tech support. Try giving them a call.

Usually, when a system does not POST (Power On Self Test), and there is no beep at all, the first two things to check are: 1- The video card. It must be inserted into It's slot all the way and be secured to the computer case with a screw or a case clamp. 2 - The memory. Make sure that it is seated in it's slots. If you only have one stick installed, have it checked.

Does it just shut off, or does it wait 8 seconds after you press the power button? If it waits, the mobo should be OK.

Check the video. If it's on an external card, replace the card. If it's on board, try plugging in a card. Try a different monitor.

If you know the hard drive works that is eliminated. Take it to a computer shop. They can do a quick and probably free power supply test. If it fails buy one and replace it yourself. If that passes it is probably your motherboard.
