I have a Dell Dimension with a Celeron 2.4 Ghz processor.. it has slowed up over time. It isn't the Internet speed, but the general processing speed, especially on start-up thats bothering me. Any good diagnostic tools?

When a personal computer is turned on with windows loaded up, what is the CPU doing? My teacher says it is running a screen saver program and in between that is simply checking for interrupts over and over again. Is this true? Can anyone tell me exactly what it is doing. Surely it would be more efficient to defrag or some other maintenance program.

Hey, I'm trying to cut down on noise a little bit so I was thinkin about getting a monitor extension cable and putting the case in the closet where I can mostly close the sliding door. There would still be about a foot of space on each side of the case and the rest is clothes/furniture.

So, with the door closed and everything will there still be adequate circulation for a computer case or two and small boombox's amp unit?

hi,

i had confused about my office pc when it going unbootable. when i installed the h. disk to another pc, S.M.A.R.T msg appears on boot screen that the disk are damaged. so, i bought a new h. disk. setting up XP & other apps. i boot it, but the 'nice' blue screen flashing and the system rebooted simultaneously.

several days before it going well (with this old hdisk) with in the same time some cracking sound came form the cpu. i know it. i must change the new h.disk. AND I'M VERY SURE IT'S NOT A M/BOARD PROBLEM. but later when i change the new one, it rebooting over and over.

is it a bios problem? system uncompatible(bought this pc by 2003). or m/board problem?

how to resolve it? thanks!

I have already drives C to I created by the manufacturer. D is the recovery drive. I think, to save all video (movie) files I have to create a new drive and keep them in it. Then only I can save them while I reinstall my computer. How can I create a new drive? Will I face any trouble by the new drive?

I accidentally removed my family tree programme (had 2, removed the wrong one) - 14 years of research down the drain - but I have been told that if you turn the internal clock back you restore the computer to the way it was. I have too many video (movie) files in my computer. If I reinstall the computer, I have to copy all the video files in CD otherwise all video files will go away. Is there any way to save them within the hard-disk? They should not be deleted during reinstallation.

Hey,
I'm a fairly computer savvy college student who is looking for an external hard drive to store videos, music, and a TON of photos. As far as size i know the more the merrier because i am only going to be needing more and more storage space. When looking for an HD though, it gives me 3 options, USB, firewire, and ethernet. I am pretty sure i just need the USB but that is my main question. Also, any suggestions on sites or stores to buy from? I normally use frys.com but have been shopping around. Thanks!
- btw, this is for a toshiba portege tablet, not a desktop pc

Hi i was wondering if anyone could tell me or could think that might be wrong with my computer. When i go to turn on the computer it goes straight to a windows things saying the program was interrupted and that its got a countdown time on it from where it says windows will start but my computer freezes when it hits zero. And i have a red light where the restart button is but the light turn on and off. And casuses my computer to act this way. when i first turn on the comp i usually here a beep and i tried putting in the boot disk and the boot thing doesn't come up and goes straight to windows but i had a look at the hard drive and now i still get the thing that says windows has been interupted due to power failer or unexpected restarts cause thats what the computer was doing before this problem my brother says the hard drive could have viruses as it makes a noise that sounds like a lawn mower or some sort. if anyone who can understand me can give me advice. thanx

My PC was recently purchased through eBay and is somewhat less powerfual than I estimated. Does anyone have a similar PC, or even the same model, and know if it is possible to upgrade my processor to a Core2 Duo? Or even Core2 Extreme? I'm not sure what my motherboard is capable of.

I am planning to use 4 units of 500G Seagate SATA drive
(ST3500630AS) and I just got a new motherboard :
ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe, which has NVIDIA nForce 590 chipset with NVRAID feature. Can someone please give me some advise, if I should go with the NVRAID's Raid-5,
Is it reliable, and how good is it's performance ?
Or I should chose another vendor's dedicated RAID controller, if another vendor, which one has most reliable, performance o.k., and relatively lower cost.
