year old i never had this problem before the light on my tower keeps dimming off and on .would appriciate any sugesstions or comments thanks

i can be using it and all of a sudden it shuts off then i put it back on and again it shuts off and other times it will stay on . help

Lets see I would check to see how good the power cord is connected in the back and if that does not help maybe your power supply is getting bad couple options to try I hope it helps

Try using AVG Free for a virus scan. Then get some canned air and blow all the dust bunnies out of the case and fans. Make sure all fans are running. If the CPU fan is not working all the time, replace it NOW! That will cause heat damage to the CPU, one of the more expensive parts on the computer other than the mobo. In BIOS there is a setting that senses the CPU temperature, if it get too hot it shuts the computer down to protect the CPU from being damaged. A CPU fan is very inexpensive (about $5-$20) verses a new CPU at $200+! If it's a year old it's probably out of warranty, unless you extended it. the light on the front panel you are referring to is probably the HDD activity light, not the power light. The power light just stays lit when the power is on. The HDD activity light does flash and dim when the HDD is active. It is also located next to the power light on most computers.

open the left side panel as you face the puter. see if the fan on your processor is is running or not ,if not this is your problem the processor is over heating and it shuts the system down so it won't burn up also if it has alot of dust in it this will also cause it to overheat, if this isn't the problem have you added any new hardware recently, it could be using to much of your power resources,if not then it is probably your power supply getting ready to take a dump. which is fairly cheap to replace.

Well either it is a virus, pwoer box problem,or something was deleted. You sould trying running system recovery. To do this you need the recovery disk witch came with your computer. If it does not work then I would being it some where to get looked at. In less you know what your doing and can change the power box.

could also be over heating. take off the side cover, and get a bottle of that spray air from like staples, blow it all over your fans, get the dust out from in there. your somputer may be shutting off because it is getting to hot and shuts off so the heat doesn't cause permenenat damage to the computer componets. you also may not have enough ram, but if you have 512mb you should be fine..or the power supply like everyone said could do it. may also be a virus, but i doubt it if you are smart in using it. i would check the fans, common problem that people overlook. good luck =]

My computer does this when I'm using a ton of processor and it's not getting enough air. If I don't set a fan beside it when I restart is shuts off again. So I'd recommend setting a fan beside it, or buying more fans for the inside.

It might have gotten a virus that causes it to go crazy. Try calling the computer provider when you have a lot of time and ask if there is anything you can do to fix it. They may know better becuase of depending on the type of computer.

Sounds like your processor is cooked or try going into your control panel and go into power options there you will see some options put all settings to never and see what happens if nothing then I'm not to sure then.

Is your computer in a hot room with no air circulation? They like the cool from AC. Heat Will eventually burn your computer out.
