Hey, I'm trying to cut down on noise a little bit so I was thinkin about getting a monitor extension cable and putting the case in the closet where I can mostly close the sliding door. There would still be about a foot of space on each side of the case and the rest is clothes/furniture.

So, with the door closed and everything will there still be adequate circulation for a computer case or two and small boombox's amp unit?

it's not the processor fan that's loud it's the power supply. it's an amd xp chip in a micro atx case that doesn't seem to have room for a case fan. I was thinking about adding a little 110 fan from rs to the closet or something maybe?

there are a lot of solutions under 20 dollars at www.geeks.com or www.tigerdirect.com changing the power supply takes about 15 minutes that includes a cigarette break

It will have enough ventilation as long as you keep the foot of space around the heat supply and the fan output. It might be hard to find a monitor cable that long.

What do you plan on doing with the cd/dvd drives - open the closet to drop in a dvd ? Circulation doesn't appear to be a problem - just open the door once in a while.

To cut down the noise, please get some high efficiency fans from zalman or so .. .. use some silver thermal compound between your proc and heatsink .. this will reduce the temp of your processor thereby reducing noise ..
putting it in the closet will bring the system performance down ...
