My intentions were good, however, I'm unsure on the outcome. While doing a few upgrades, including Pentium III (Via motherboard) to a Sony VIO motherboard with the mini-chip processor, I noticed a few 'ugly' area's and tried to correct, even though the system was running well with the new additions. I methodically removed everything from the tower, leaving only a shell, sides, front(without electrical wiring) and the little brass feet...screw things that the motherboard is secured with in the cabinet. Everything was scrubbed to remove dirt and oil or grease and I sanded any rust areas. then allow to dry. Afterwards, and using an expensive spray paint, I covered all surfaces as directed by the manufacturer. The rest should have been a breeze, and it was, except turning the computer "ON." The CPU fan simply sputtered briefly and stopped and the system hasn't booted in the 12 hours since.Has the paint interrupted the grounding process or does it simply hate the new color? be nice...

I already have 2*256 MB installed, so i suppose i have to take out one 256 MB from one slot, and replace it with the 1GB one. Has anybody got any clue how to do that? By the way, what type memory shall I buy? and how to install it? I have found no service manual for my laptop on the internet.

What good websites are there out there for me to customize a PC before I buy it, looking particularly at Windows PCs and preferably ones where you don't have to have a monitor purchased with it.

Note: I live in the United Kingdom.

I tried everything from virus scanning, to cleaning out the registry, and defragging. I even scanned all the drives for errors, and there is absolutely no difference whatsoever. I can't do a reformat unless I buy a disk because my computer didn't come with a Windows XP disc, and it's very expensive, so I don't want to go that route unless I have to, but I'd much rather not. I hope someone out there can help me. I was hit with a virus of some kind, but now my computer is completely clean. I just don't know why it's running so slow, and it starts up so slowly. It effects everything from the internet speed to the overall speed of the computer, and it's very annoying. I even installed more RAM a few months ago, and the computer has over 600 MB of RAM. I even added an additional drive for storage. It was fast at first, but lately it's been going very slow. Any help would be very much appreciated thank you!
