My girlfriend just got a decent tax return and needs a computer

I burned a few cd's and tried to play them on my laptop, but the laptop doesnt recognize the cd. It keeps say Ive inserted a blank disc however the cds play just fine of my stereo. Any suggestions would be great.

It appear that moving one hard drive from one computer to another is not workable if they bear different hard drives. what can be done to make things work please? It's windowXP. Do i just reformat the hard disk using the mother board to which i intend to transfer the mother board? Just what do i do Sir

Ok, so i just recently installed vista in my laptop and the sound doesnt work....I looked doen at my toolbar and it keeps saying " No audio output installed", ive heard that HP's have this problem, but im so computer retarted i have no idea what to do...do i need to install something, where do i get it?

I just bought a 8800GTS with 640MB. I seem to be getting really really poor performance in games such as FEAR and CS:S. The weird thing is that i can max everything in FEAR no probs at a resolution of 1280X1024 in the test thing it says that i have 0% under 40FPS and 100% over 40FPS which is good, but when i actually get round to palying the game i get jolt then smooth play, then more jolting. This happens in all of my games, like DOom 3, PRey, CS:S, only exepion would hvae to be wow. Any ideas anyone?? My system specs are:
AMD Athlon 3800+X2
1024 MB of ram (1gb)
400W PSU
IM running Windows Vista Ultimate
and ofcourse the BFG 880GTS 640MB.

IM stuck!

I want to buy whatever it is I need to buy so my husband can record music at home on our computer. The problem is, it's a surprise so I can't ask him what he needs. He used to record a lot, but he no longer has an amp or p.a. or anything. We have a mac laptop that's about a year old. we have garage band. he has a microphone. i looked on the apple store site, and they had some usb interface things, and a friend told me to get an imic and a pre-amp and stuff, but I'm still confused and don't really know what I'm looking for. I imagine he would mostly just want to record acoustic guitar and vocals to start, possibly keyboard and a drum machine in the future. So what do I need to buy to get him started? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

When I go to wireless connections, none appear and then I click on the refresh button and it tell me to switch on the wireless switch by going to the functions, but, I don't see the wireless icon.

I have 9 Card readers built into my Computer, and they are of course listed under Devices With Removable Storage. EX: My "C" Drive, 31/2 Floppy, BUT the problem is when I Boot up My computer and put in my SD CARD from my Digital Camera "H" Drive is not listed at times, BUT if I shut down the computer and restart it, "H" Drive IS listed again. What do I have to do to keep my Removable Drives for removable Storage LISTED so I do not have to shut down and Reboot everytime I want to insert the SD Card? It usually does this AFTER I Delete the Pix off the SD Card after I send them to my Documents so I can Edit them and save them to a CD. Thanx for any info you may be able to provide in advance.

I am going to buy a Western Digital My Book 500GB Essential USB2.0 External Hard Drive. I am not sure what the file system is. At the moment i am using a PC though in a few months i will be using both a Mac and a PC thus what would be a compatible file system which doesnt cause partitions. I heard that Fat 32 is only capable of 32gb though i am not sure.

I'm trying to install a Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000. And I put the disc in and follow the instructions. Then when it comes to install, it takes forever. I started at like 830pm and it kept on going until like 840. I tried it 3-4 times, and it just keeps on taking forever. What could be causing this problem?

And I still have my old webcam (creative) in the computer, still. Should I take that out?
