What is happening????

I have 9 Card readers built into my Computer, and they are of course listed under Devices With Removable Storage. EX: My "C" Drive, 31/2 Floppy, BUT the problem is when I Boot up My computer and put in my SD CARD from my Digital Camera "H" Drive is not listed at times, BUT if I shut down the computer and restart it, "H" Drive IS listed again. What do I have to do to keep my Removable Drives for removable Storage LISTED so I do not have to shut down and Reboot everytime I want to insert the SD Card? It usually does this AFTER I Delete the Pix off the SD Card after I send them to my Documents so I can Edit them and save them to a CD. Thanx for any info you may be able to provide in advance.

The card reader may need updated drivers, or the connection to the board needs checking, open the pc case and make sure the connection is secure, go to the pc maker's website and download the latest drivers for the reader.

So if i understand correctly, your computer boots up and the H: drive (and other memory card slots) behave correctly, but after some time passes, they just disappear.

Well, obviously, you should check the stupid stuff first: Make sure it's plugged in securely, no dirt or dust in the plugs/jacks/cardslots, try other SD cards if possible, etc. I know I know, you did this already, but I need to make sure it's not skipped before moving on.

Since your card reader is built in, I can't ask you to unplug and replug it. However this IS USB we're talking about, so maybe it's related to the power-saving features for USB. USB has 4 connectors, the two on the outside supply 5 volts of power to whatever plugged in, so to save power, sometimes computers shut down the USB interface altogether. Unless you're on a laptop, there's no need for this, but you know Microsoft, always trying to accommodate everyone.

Assuming this is WindowsXP SP2 (maybe 1), Right Click on My Computer and select Properties (or you can Hold down the Windows Logo key and press PAUSE/BREAK). Then click on the HARDWARE tab, then the DEVICE MANAGER button. You should see a list of different types of components. Towards the bottom, click on the [+] next to "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". Double click EVERY ITEM and look for a "Power Management" tab on each. If there is one, click it, and take off the check next to:
[ ] Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power\
and then click on [OK].
If there is no "Power Management" tab, just close it and move on to the next.

Then just close everything. You shouldn't have to reboot, but if it takes less than 5 minutes, you might as well. Test it an see if this fixes your problem. You can also try deleting the devices from Device Manager then wait for the computer to re-find and re-install them (be sure to create a System Restore Point before you start). If it doesn't, maybe the card reader is just screwey and you need a new one. You can get external ones at any electronics or camera store. Just don't pay more than $40.
