Is there a noticeable difference in performance between memory that is DDR2-800 and DDR2-677? Also, is there a noticeable difference between 5-5-5-12 and 4-4-4-12 timings? What is the benefit of having the higher spec in these cases?

I've had many explain to me what it does and the purpose behind it. But I still don't get it. Let's say my laptops breaks down. What good is this "back-up" stuff? How do I work with a laptop that is let's say, frozen up?

the label on my computer says it has 1024MB but when i right clicked " My Computer" and properties, it says i have 960MB instead. howcome? thanks.

Nothing fancy--just out of spare parts lying around. Don't know too much about the specs, but I found a mainboard. It is a MB-8500TAC-A Ver.4--Is this a good mainboard? Or can I do much, much better if I look around? I haven't even laid out any plans yet. And I have no idea what the mainboard assets and liabilities even are. Any help please?

I would like a laptop for college. I will need it for internet research and document making (typing, graphs, and images).
