I heard or thought you could put pics in and have them on your computer without it being a digital camera. If a scanner does do it then what does?

Hello Kaitlyn32507,

Yes. A table top scanner can scan photographs, your drawings, even forms, that you can save to your computer. There's even some scanners that can reproduce transparencies, negatives, and film slides.

Some kinds of scanner software can even reproduce scanned in text (I think that it's CSR) and is able to translate that into typed text so that you can save on re-typing. Other people use their scanner like a copier or fax machine to reproduce the image for printing to their computer's printer or sending to people with their computer's faxing capabilities.

There should be some scanner software that came with the hardware, or perhaps you can download it from the manufacturer's web site. Best of luck to you.

Usually when you install your scanner you will end up with some kind of "tool kit " icon that will start the scanning process. They are different depending on your particular scanner. Click on the desktop icon to start the process. The end result is you want to scan and save the pic as a JPG file. What will happen is the scanner will make a complete scan of the bed. At this point you will have the option of saving only the portion that shows your pic (software is different but you should be able to see dotted lines to show size and use the mouse to shrink the dotted lines to your dimensions). Should be some choice available now to make final scan. You will have to name the scan someplace along the line so you can find it later.

Put the original in, and open the ICON to run the scanner program. It's really easy... just DO IT.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

I scan documents as PDF's or JPEG's in order to be able to e-mail them as attachments. If there is a document that no longer exists electronically, I also scan it to Microsoft Word using OCR (optical character recognition) in order to be able to save and edit it into a new document without having to do a lot of retyping.
