my cartridges seem to run out rather quickly. also, the printer is kept in a cold basement.

I currently have: AMD Athlon(tm) Processor
1.10 GHz 368 MB of Ram
and the OS is: Mocrosoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002
Service Pack 2
I want to update the system myself, but I don't know where to start and what steps are necessary before starting this process.
I've added memory, replaced fans and added components to my computer but I've never attempted to upgrade the system.
Should I try this myself or take it to a professional?
I'm not afraid to pop it open and work on it but upgrading is completely different I know.

Always used floppies for saving my work, now have new computer with drive that reads/writes, when I try to save things the "wizard" does its thing, then when I try to open file it opens ok but if I try to change anything, I get: cannot change document is read only or used by another .....I am using CD-RW discs, tried saving to hard drive then copying, saving to floppy and copying, etc please help, what am I doing wrong. Went to Staples and fellow there said "you really should use a flash drive that would solve your problem", maybe but I'd like to be able to use the equipment that came on this thing, its only 16 days old. I also somethimes get a message "you don't have permission to save on this directory" its my machine, what permission, from who

I can't find out what kind of RAM I need. I pulled it out and it said "DDR400 (2.5) 256MX8". I currently have 256megs and want to upgrade to 1 GB. I got my computer from Fry's, no manufacture name. The processor is an "AMD Sempron 2800+" Need more info?

I just got a laptop and i am not sure if i should keep turning it off when i dont use it. the first thing i do when i wake up is come on it, and then i turn it off for the day, then come back on at night, and turn it off when i go to bed. Should i just keep it on, but have me logged off during the day? or turn it off? and sometimes when i close it it turns it off after like 30 mins.

Firewire is supposed to be S400/S800 but why does SP2 lower that to S100? Also, is there any danger to a non-IT professional installing the update from microsoft (designated KB885222) to restore the speed to S400?

I'm using a 3-year-old eMac. Very rarely, and only in Microsoft Word (several versions), the cursor would take on a life of its own, go crazy and race backwards, erasing text as it went. I thought it was a glitch in Word but didn't mind so much because I could always replace what I lost and it happened so seldom.
But today it happened while I was viewing a list of my bookmarks in Safari. At least a dozen bookmarks were erased. I don't even know yet what's gone, but luckily nothing is irretrievable. Still, it shook me up.
Is it time to buy a new Mac?

I just need to know what to do so that the computer recognizes the on board audio. I went through device manager and it doesn't show up, when i click volume control it says " There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices go to Vontrol Panel, click Printers andOther hardware and click add hardware." that doesn't help.

Computer fans and LED on MB come on. No boot, no beep codes. Do I need a new MB or video card? How can I test this?

Asus P4T
Intel Socket 423 Pentium® 4 (not sure GHZ)
All 4 memory sockets are full (RDRAM Memory)

This was a friends of mine and I don't have specifics on amount of memory or size of vid card. Vid card has ports for 2 monitors and I have tried both. As far as I know it was working fine until one day it would not start, that's all the info I have. Thanks in advance

I had iMovie on my iMac but i went to go use it and it was gone. Its not in applications? When I tried to download it. It said it needed the version 6.0.1 and I can find that. Do you know where iMovie might be on the computer or where I can download the 6.0.1 version??
