I've never heard of Mirus. Acer is typically good although I heard some bad stories. In reference to Lenovo, so far they are a good company. They purchased the IBM Desktop line so they sell two products.

1. Lenovo developed products
2. IBM develped Desktop products (Thinkcenter and Thinkpad)

In addition Lenovo offers the Thinkvantage Tools TVT tools. The products are more expensive, but the support is excellent. You can find parts and service manuals online. If you would like to look at the various Thinkcenter and Thinkpad systems go on to Lenovo's website and type in PSREF. You can view the personal systems reference sheets that tell you everything you need to know.

Lenovo continues to do research and provide better products while Acer simply builds computers. We are an IBM/Lenovo institution. If you are bargain hunting than Acer will probalby offer you a lower price.

Do not go with eMachines. These systems are build very cheaply.

I can speak about my experience with a Lenovo and an Acer.
I am a business person, and need a heavy duty travel laptop that can run large programs. I ordered a Lenovo from Best Buy for Business and was completely dissatisfied. The software that was supposed to be bundled with it did not come with it, the Verizon card that was built in failed to work, the CD Rom was rather cheaply made, and I simply didn't like its performance. I exchanged it for an Acer, and was very happy: Performance and
sturdiness, high quality all very top-notch. The lighter weight than the Dell is what I was searching for. However, the price is comparably more considering what was originally bundled with the Lenovo. I do not know about Mirus. You must be careful if you order a laptop, because you need to pay attention what they say you can do and not do if you want to return an item. I think it would be better if you went into a store and tried them out.

over all i think lenovo are good computers for the price. even though they are chinese ibm they still have a very good reputation. acer are good if you are looking for a bargain. i have used acer awhile ago and was pretty satisfied with the performance. again remember one thing, both lenovo and acer probably only makes the casing of the computer. the parts inside the pc is all from various manufacturers. dont worry about the brand name. if acer is going to cost you 400 bucks and can satisfy all of your requirements then go with that. dont worry about spending extra 200 bucks for a major brand with same configuration just because its a major name. :)
emachines are decent too. specially if you can get it for under 300 bucks. i think you should add compaq in your list too. i have purchased a compaq presario laptop for 500 bucks with amd sempron proc and 2 gb memory about a year ago. now the same laptop with 512mb memory can cost you about 400 bucks. hope that helps.

If you are referring to their Notebooks :

#1 = Lenovo (previously IBM Thinkpads ... rock solid)
#2 = Acer (good bargains ... poor support)
#3 = Mirus (not on your life)

Acer computers seem to be the most popular and the most reliable choice, but often times it can cost a bundle to get even a decent amount of performance. Depending on your budget, get the fastest processor you can. Its easy to control how much you have on your harddrive

brands suck, pay attention to what they give you for your money.
dont get suckered by what free programs they give you.

things to look for
1. memory(RAM) theese days 1GB minimum
2.storage, depends on what u gonna do. documents (30GB should do) multimedia as in lots of MP3's or games then 60 or more
3.processor, again depends on what u gonna do, games go for AMD, documents and MP3's go for INTEL.
