need to find out about different chips in my posession

What specifically do you want to know?

Generally in the bios, it will show the amount/size of RAM in each slot.

I know there are utilities out there that read the bios info but I do not know if they go down to the manufacturer of the memory.

Its a great free site and there is no advertising or popup crap. Just type in the part number of the IC you have and it'll give you the closest results with descriptions, data sheets, and alternate part numbers. I can almost always find what I'm looking for.
