If you are not using you printer for a few weeks try removing the carts and keep them in the fridge this stops them drying out. By the way some printers new from the store already have half empty cartridges, ( HP ) when challenged HP prefer to call them low volume rather than half empty !! Cheers Pete

YEPPERS!
If they are past expiration, they will probably not work.
HP has been sued over their micro clock and micro clicker technology. Actually, they have counters and clocks in the ink cartridges that will "expire" the device. Also, when you fill them, they will not register correctly. We have had cartridges that were completely full but registered that they needed to be replaced because they were empty.
WHAT A RACKET. I am glad that I do not have to fill my car up with printer ink! 10 gallons is about $2 Million dollars.

Yup, if heard this is fact but I've not left a printer alone long enough to find out first hand. I've heard that they start going after about one and a half to two years of inactivity.

the cartridge head will dry, means you wont be able to print with it but it wont lose ink! remove the cartridge if the head is to much inky, maybe it's losing ink, and if you have filled the cartridge (HP) yourself, it can lose ink, happened for me and my printer was full of ink!!
