Hi,
I have a Packard Bell notebook. It came with 512mb RAM but i removed that and inserted two 1gb sticks. Total ram is now 2gb which is the maximum.
UNfortunately programs still take way to long to open, and boot time is also slow.
Two main qsts:

1. Does it matter that i replaced the original RAM with new Kingston RAM?
2. If i try to speed up my bootup time, what are the essential programs required. Basically, what do i HAVE to keep in the msconfig startup box?

Thanks! :)

My mother has a Dell computer with a speed of (I'm guessing) 1 gigahz. It is about 4 to 5 years old. Is this good enough for viewing video conferencing with a broadband IP? She can't travel and I am undergoing chemo treatments. This and other factors has resulted in a 2 years since I have seen her. I suspect it doesn't have much of a video card and probably 250 to 500 meg memory. So where is it best to optimize the video conferencing components: memory, or video card, or cpu speed? I don't have much money to spend on it being upgraded.

I currently have an AGP-based motherboard and I'm planning on upgrading my ATI 9700 Pro to one of those two cards. (I won't upgrade my PC to PCI-E until Windows Vista is released and stable drivers have been finalized. I don't want a repeat of what happened when I first got WinXP Pro...) Anyway, I'm kind of stuck. According to WikiPedia, the X1600 XT has a core clock of 590Mhz and memory clocked at 1380 Mhz 128-bit GDDR3. It has 12 pixel pipelines and a max fillrate of 7080M Texels/sec. The 7800 GS, however, has a core clocked in at 375 Mhz and memory clocked at 1200 Mhz 256-bit GDDR3. It has 16 pixel pipelines and a max fillrate of 6000M Texels/sec. That makes me a bit confused on which of the two are better cards. The ATI is clocked faster but only has 12 pipes but higher fillrate. The nVidia is clocked slower and has 16 pipes but lower fillrate. One has 128-bit memory, the other 256-bit. Both have 256 MB GDDR3. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have a Dell latitude D500 which crashed sometime back. The problem is that now when I turn it on, the caps lock light flashes 10 times, there is no display and the laptop shuts down. I tried seraching for this and found this
http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/...
I tried the solutions given on that link but it didnt help.
I had 2 questions:
1) Has anyone faced the same problem and has a solution u think might work?
2) If not, does anyone know of a reliable place where I can get it repaired (Out of warranty, so Dell is out of question as they are too expensive). I would prefer a shop in the bay area though a reliable online retailer would be OK too..

I found this site

http://www.laptoponcall.com

Does anyone have experience with them? are they reliable?

Can anyone help me figure out what the numbers in CPUs are for? What exactly they mean and what each one really does. This will help me a lot in figuring out which processor I buy.
A core Duo, or a core 2 duo.. AMD perhaps?
I heard something about getting a low voltage since they generate less heat (for notebooks). Is this worth the sacrifice?

Thanks for everyone who'll respond.

Need to know of a program or method whereby I can move some of the avavilable space over to another side of the hard drive. This is a 60 gb harddrive, split with a partition, designating C and D as drives, I need to move space from D to C, due to too small of a partition. If it matters I am running windows 200 pro. on an asus board. with a western digital hard drive.
