When I leave my laptop open, and do not use it for awhile, the screen goes black. How can I stop it from doing this? I have it set so there is no screen saver. Would it still do this even with a screen saver?

I'd like the computer to stay on. The display can turn off, but I'd like the computer to stay awake. I looked in the Energy Savery control panel but couldn't find it.

What could have caused this? She has all her business software on there and can't access anything on the computer. She is the only one that has access to it (well besides her cats).

I have an old stereo system that has a working turntable, and I would like to transfer LP tracks to my laptop. The only sound input is the mike input, as in most PCs. And the stereo system's only outputs are from the turntable (very small signal), the headphones' output, and the one to the cassette recorder.

Can I connect any of these outputs to the laptops' mike input? If not, do I need any extra hardware?

I just don's want anything get burned, except eventually some CDs.

I have downloaded Audacity in order to record and edit the music, and Lame MP3 to encode. Has anyone used this software? What do you think of it?

I only have 2 USB ports on the back and wondered if there is something I can purchase that's inexpensive, quick and easy, in order to use all 3 pieces of hardware. I thank all of you for any advice or guidance you can give me! Thanks!

I need to know how to get rid of the drop thingie that has all the words saved that you have typed. for example, when i go to Ebay and start to type in the search engine, if i am lookong for toddlers shoes the drop down thingie comes down and shows where i looked for toddler toys, clothes, ect. this is really annoying please help!!

I just formatted a brand new Maxtor 200GB Hard Disk & tried to set up Windows 2000 Professional (Service Pack 4) onto it. During the setup process, the computer boots - but unfortunately what happens is that when it boots, the Windows logo appears on the screen & the progress bar goes upto 50% - but then it suddenly freezes & I have to reset it again to see the same problem occuring again :(

I've tried fixing the MBR, tried disconnecting several on-board accesories to try stripping the configuration down to a minimum; but of no avail :(

Anyone can tell what could be the issue here & recommend a solution for it?

I installed a new Epson C88+ on my work's mac computer. it works fine everywhere else, but it does not work in Adobe illustrator 9.0. it cannot be found under "Chooser". I honestly have no idea what to do, and im about to get a good yelling if i cant figure it out, please help!

I have a Sony Vaio Pentium 4 PCV-R5420. I've only had it for 18 months, but already I have maxed out my memory and the computer has difficulties handling the massive amount of photographs that I store and edit, and all the programs that use for building my website, editing, networking, etc. Even using temporary memory isn't cutting it, and yes, both the C & D drive are full.
So obviously I need something with a better processor, and lots lots lots of more space. I liked my Sony, this is my 3rd one, so Sony seems ideal, but if anyone else has any ideas, I'd be willing to seriously consider it. Thanks for taking the time to think about this!

My Cd-r drive has stopped fuctioning properly all of a sudden! When I insert a CD into my drive to download a program it does not start automatically. And when i go to the control panel the program i want to install appears in the drive , but when i click to start it ir will not start. This is not just one program but many. It does read CR-ROM , HOWEVER. Just 30 minutes ago it wasfuntioning fine. The error message sys i need to Install WINDOWS INSTALLER. Butt when i go to microsoft site to download it i get a meesage saying: this program alreadt exist. What coul be the problem? pls help!

My Inspiron (SP?) will not turn on or if t does it freezes within a minute. I called Dell they said I need a new memory chip. Does this make sense? I already ordered the chip and am hoping that fixes it. When I try to power up the PC the lights do come on but only for a second, unless I am lucky enough for it to power up completley. I have read where it could be the motherboard. What could be the problem? Thanks

I recently pushed a new laptop. Last night I went to turn it on, and when I press the "on" button, nothing happens, I left it to charge up for about an hour, and tried again, but still, there is no response when I press the on button. i pulled the hard drive and installed it on another desktop and it worked just fine so i put it back in the old desk top and went to bios and it says hard drive not found and bios would not let me change any settings.

Right now I have a Pentium 4 proccesor doing 2.9ghz & 2.8ghz, with 1GB of ram. The thing is this, I have two 256mb DDR @ 333mhz and two 256@133mb DDR to make that 1GB of RAM. Was I better off with the original 512RAM@ 333? I checked my CMOS and my memory clock speed said it was 266mhz
