I have a Sony Vaio Pentium 4 PCV-R5420. I've only had it for 18 months, but already I have maxed out my memory and the computer has difficulties handling the massive amount of photographs that I store and edit, and all the programs that use for building my website, editing, networking, etc. Even using temporary memory isn't cutting it, and yes, both the C & D drive are full.
So obviously I need something with a better processor, and lots lots lots of more space. I liked my Sony, this is my 3rd one, so Sony seems ideal, but if anyone else has any ideas, I'd be willing to seriously consider it. Thanks for taking the time to think about this!

You don't need to upgrade your CPU! That's NOT going to fix your problem!

While you can always benefit from added RAM, what you really need is a larger hard drive, that's all!

You have maxed out your memory or your harddrive space. There is a huge difference. Memory or RAM is only temporary storage and if you have many things open at a time it can run out and give you errors. As for harddrive space the long term storage that you use why not buy some external hardrives and hooked them up that should help get some more storage space for your pictures and get them off your bootable harddrive and speed things up a bit. Also it seems like you move data around quite a bit when is the last time you defragmented your harddrives that will speed up the accesstimes. Especially if you have never done it before and are constantly moving things around and deleting and adding files. As for temporary storage i assume you mean DVDs and CDs to try and clean off some harddrive space. More memory is the most cost effective way to add more performance to a computer. If you edit pictures in Photoshop there is a setting that will allow you to allocate how much memory you want photoshop to be able to use. The more it uses the faster it completes things. If you still want a new processor the Pentium Core 2 Duos just came out and are spectacularly fast. You just have to remember to add some memory(RAM) into the mix to make it run faster because it seems you like to multitask.

If you are happy with Sony then get a newer model with the Intel Core2 Duo processor, with 1Gb of memory or more. Running out of disk space is not a big deal since you can always add external disks which are reasonably priced, but your main issue is memory and processor speed. So check out the new VAIO with the processor I indicated above and see what is the max memory you can have in it. Good luck.

I wouldn't buy another Sony. Their desktop units have gone downhill lately.

I wouldn't just upgrade your processor. I would do a full system upgrade. For what you are doing you are wanting something that has the following:
1.) 3GHz or better P4 or AMD (compare the prices)
2.) 800MHz FSB or better
3.) 1 - 2 GB RAM DDR (3400 or 4200 (if you can afford it))
4.) A 250GIg SATA HDD

Those four things will make a great computer. Now, I wouldn't skimp out on the graphics card either. I would get a nice ATI or NVidida card. Something with the dual monitor support. It's wonderful.

That's my recommendations, and I could build all that for you with Windows XP Pro for less than $900 ... just write me back.

Buy an external USB hard drive and store all your photographs on it. Any computer will run slow when the hard drive's full. The system needs space to write temporary files.

You don't really need to buy a new HD or anything as the speed of the CPU on that one should be fine with what you use it for. Just buy and install a DVD burner and start storing information on DVDs.

I would like to help you but the model you listed doesn't exist, at least that what Sony says. I assume this is a desktop, can you check the model again? You can email me if you want.

some things dont sound quite right...like the d drive being full..how can it be full when it's a cd drive not a hard drive...to me it sounds like you need a tune up and maybe a new hard drive and ram memory not a new computer/laptop
