When I leave my laptop open, and do not use it for awhile, the screen goes black. How can I stop it from doing this? I have it set so there is no screen saver. Would it still do this even with a screen saver?

Yeah, It sounds like it is going into standby mode or something. If you have xp you can turn that off by :
1. Right click on the despktop and go to properties.
2. go to the screen saver tab
3. at the bottom there should be a power button
You should find the settings in there for everything

Good Luck! Hope that helps - I dont have a laptop in front of me to check but I believe thats it

That must be a wise energy saver. Whats wrong with a blank screensaver? It saves battery life ,especially on laptops. You need every micro volt to keep it going.
Believe me it will keep your laptop screen prettier to look at longer. When left for long periods of time, the image it got left on burns itself into the screen and youll see it in the background.
If you absolutely hate a blank screensaver, then choose another one. Its as easy as that
