Sounds like a dead battery, it may appear to be charging but it's not holding the charge. How long have you had it? If it's reasonably new, within a year, you might get a replacement battery on the warranty. Contact Dell.

I had this happen to my Dell two seperate times, both times it was a different cause.

The first time, it was my power adapter (the big thing betwen the wall and the comp) - it was faulty and wouldn't actually charge the battery.

The second time it was the motherboard that needed replacement - the motherboard somehow controls the charging and was not charging the battery.

The other thing it may be, is that the battery failed, but that usually happens gradually and not all at once.

Hope that was of some help, good luck!

It is possible if this has a power pin that its loose so its stopping it from charging. If this is just a power board job it might be easy enough to buy it and replace it yourself as these usually are not a solder on job. Nevertheless if its built into the mobo then you are on borrowed time. If you attempt any sort internal soldering you run the risk of frying something on the mobo. So here are your options: if you are willing to risk getting that mobo out and attempt to solder that power pin into place then try it. Do not, I repeat do no try to take this power module out and put in a new one because you may damage the board! You problem is that the connection to get juice to the unit is breaking down pure and simple. Good luck.

Your battery is dead. Time to buy a new one.

Any rechargeable battery will stop working eventually. They don't last forever.
