Programs cannot be installed pop-up is saying another installation is already in progress. What can I do about this?

Windows Installer can only handle one installation at a time. I assume you have tried restarting your computer. Next time you get that message, look at the Task Manager and kill any duplicate installer processes you find.

it occurs only for some kinds of installers.
they don't allow you to open more than 1 installer.
so if you have another installation open, wait for it to be closed then start another one. unless restart your computer and then try again.

shut down all other apllication when installing the new software.
start > control panel > add or remove programs > add new programs
