Will a SATA 16MB Cache HDD function optimally in a 1.5GHz CPU computer or do I need to have a faster CPU?

What is the best way to use your computer? do you leave it on all day; do you log off everytime you use it; do you log on everytime you want to use it? Is it dangerous to leave it on all day? can someone invade it?

So when I go to certain web pages where there is sound playing I hear nothing. I went to preferences and advanced and the box that says "play sound in internet explorer" is checked off. What could it be?

My boyfriend is having computer troubles, the monitor works, but last night he started it, you can here the computer starting but nothing shows up. The green power button does not show up, but the green light for the memory card slots does. Any ideas what is causing this?

I purchased a 1GB of RAM that has speed of 400mhz. My old RAM is 256MB and has 400mhz. I want to extend my memory to 1.256GB. Can this be possible? I am afraid of short circuit of my pc.

I have a PC which is dated 2002....it picks up on blank CD's and allows me to burn to them, however it doesnt pick up on blank DVD's and so i cant burn them?? Is it because my actual CD drive is too old and if so could you please point me in the right direction of some cheap dvd-r writter compatible drives!! THANKYOU!!

I have had a black Toshiba laptop for about a year and a half. However, last summer I think I broke the laptop but I'm not sure. One day there was a mosquito on it and I smashed the mosquito which was on the laptop. The laptop then acted real crazy after the blow. Anyways, a couple of weeks later my laptop never reached the startup screen. Everytime I turned it on it would read this message: ***BAD RTC BATTERY***
***BAD CHECK SUM (CMOS)***
CHECK SYSTEM. THEN PRESS [F1] KEY. I pressed the F1 key but then never knew what to do from there. A couple of times it would come to the logon screen and I'd logon. However, it would just keep saying "logging in" but never login. It would stay in that exact same spot forever. Please help me I want to continue working with this laptop so I don't have to always use the immovable big computer. I'd like a monitor that looks good with widescreen DVDs and want a fairly high resolution. Think I should get one with DVI and I'm not fussed about sound but even this doesn't cut down the large selection! Will take any recommendations.

I am going to sell my laptop to a friend and I want to reformat it so it is as close to new as possible. When I put in the windows XP disc that came with the computer it asked for the product ID key which I could not find anywhere. It is an HP Laptop that I bought about 6 months ago.

My laptop computer--a Fujitsu Lifebook, recently took a dump. It was working fine until the system abruptly locked, and I was forced to do a hard reset. Since then, it will not boot up. I get the Fujitsu splash screen, then it dumps me to that "Windows did not boot up properly on your previous attempt blah blah blah" screen and gives the option of entering in safe mode, safe mode command prompt, start normally, or last known good configuration. I've tried each of these options numerous times, and they all yield the same result. It spits out a list of system files, but instead of referring to the C: drive, it refers to multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1). It gets past that and the Windows XP splash screen appears for several minutes. Then the machine reboots itself and the entire process repeats all over again. When I attempt to boot off a floppy or CD drive, it fails to recognize C: a valid drive.

Okay, it takes me about 5 minutes for me to open the "My Computer" at the start list, I just got another 160 gb hard drive which makes my computer to have 3 80 gb hard drives, so is that causing my computer to slow down or what? When I just installed the hard drive into my computer it was working fine, till now... What's wrong? I have one 512 + 256 MB DDR RAM and 3.0 GHZ computer and also, should I try disc defragment? Help!

My 2 yr old Dell XPS shows up with the blue screen of "unmountable_boot_volume" error. I tried to use the repair function on the XP install disc which says it cannot find the hard drive. The dell diagnostics says a "return code 7". Dell says the HD is shot. Windows help says it might be a damaged master boot record. Can the boot record be repaired? I just want to be sure before I throw out this HD and all my data. Can a repair shop get it going if I take it out of the computer and leave it with them?
