I'd like a monitor that looks good with widescreen DVDs and want a fairly high resolution. Think I should get one with DVI and I'm not fussed about sound but even this doesn't cut down the large selection! Will take any recommendations.

you cant go far wrong than to go to http://www.viewsonic.com/,these are the best and cheapest tft monitors on the market and they start from £100
http://www.dabs.com/productlist.aspx?&NavigationKey=11109&NavigationKey=4294959846&NavigationKey=12&CategorySelectedId=11109&PageMode=1,do a tft monitor for £90 and i think thats the cheapest you can buy, that would leave you £60 to invest in a sound\graphic\memory upgrade
personally i would go for memory, best upgrade you can do ,i have 1gb on my main p.c ,and it can take 4gb
the more memory, the smoother the windows experience
also , i use a 19" crt monitor and i find it clearer, and brighter than my wifes tft monitor, tft,s tend to have a dull contrast but they are sharper
the only problem with crt,s are "weight"!
good luck

Personally i like the looks and operation of the dell ultra sharp flat panels the size ranges from 15-32inches and if you look hard enough you can find them cheap.
