My boyfriend is having computer troubles, the monitor works, but last night he started it, you can here the computer starting but nothing shows up. The green power button does not show up, but the green light for the memory card slots does. Any ideas what is causing this?

it might be video card, but there is also a rare thing that happens with computers bought around 98-2002. It could be the motherboard dieing. There where faults with motherboards between 98-2000 where the compactors would burn out. this is a sign of this. I hope it's the video card. If not, you might have to get a new motherboard.

Yes... it could be that the Monitor is not working or the plug of the Monitor is not working... If u have a friends computer try it in his monitor... It might work.. or it could be the display problem... u can't say there are many possiblilities...

Check its plugged in to the VGA properly. Try the monitor on another system or another monitor. That will tell you which is at fault.

if the monitor works (as based upon tests on a different system) then I would suspect the video card.
