its not the hard disk its the program that cannot read the movie clips because they are probably corrupted

You might want to post the actual error message. I doubt the error says, "Your disk is dead."
If it's just this one program having a problem, then it's not your hard drive, otherwise everything would have a problem and you probably wouldn't even be able to boot, let alone get an error from real player.
It sounds like the clip you're trying to view is corrupt. Try downloading it again.

Probably corrupt files in Real Player. Go to control panel, add and remove programs. Remove the Real Player program, then try downloading it again. After the download, reboot the computer, then try to view the movie clip again. I this doesn't work get rid of real player altogether.

depending on where you got the movie clips "apple movie trailers dot com" you need quicktime or if it is a standard dvd you need dvd software (Nero, windvd, cyberlink) your computer is most likely not broken it doesnt have enough software loaded to read the file. The above programs are either free or very cheap or you probably have the disk in the computer box but never loaded them

You broke it! Nah I doubt yer hard drive is dead. I would take it in and have it looked at though. OR call a computer store and talk to a specialist.
