Like Roland I am currently hacked by on my Wireless network.
My friend told me not to bother because the hacker probably
re-do a a full PC restore system after each hack and even if he was found there will be no proof it is him. Is that true that if he hacks my network and reinstall his OS he eliminates all the traces?

I am NOT ABLE to copy anything to a Floppy disc or to any type of disc any longer. There is a sign that always comes up that says,"cannot create or replace" and then at the end it states
" the directory or file cannot be created."
It acts the exact same way no matter what I try to switch over. What is wrong and how do I fix it? H=E=L=P!! PLEASE!!

How can I find the individual who is using my wireless router?
Somebody is using my Wireless Router resources. I live in an apartment. What can I do? I know I am going to secure my router. But how can I find that person? Can my provider trace that person? I was told that someone with no provider but with a wireless card can map the network and use an unsecured network. But then if that person has no provider how can I find him? My provider is telling me it is impossible.

I just bought a laptop and a wireless router. I am from america and and going to England.

I have the laptop, the wireless router, and an adapter so I can use their electrical sockets

Is that enough to use anywhere I can find the electrical outlets to power the router. Do I need anything else?

I have Windows XP Pro and access the internet through a school WiFi network. I just need it so my roommate can print to it while my computer is connected to the printer and turned on. The PCs won't ever be farther than like 10 ft apart? I tried setting up sharing, but I didn't know what to put in as the server and his PC couldn't find it on the network. PrinterAnywhere won't work on our network's firewall. Is it possible to use bluetooth (printer isn't directly Bluetooth capable but the computers are).

I know this isn't labeled a wireless modem or router but I had an AT&T modem before that wasn't wireless. However, it was WEP key capable, which gave me wireless access. Does the Speedstream 4101 have WEP key capablility?

I have a network consisting of a server, a speeedstream 4100 modem, a linksys router, a linksys ethernet switch, and six dell computers running XP Pro. My internet provider is ATT/Yahoo.
My home page setting on the computers is Yahoo.

Five of the computers can connect with the internet.

All of the computers can connect with the network.

I cannot figure out why the one computer will not connect with the internet.

My understanding of all of this is limited.

My answers contain such things as follows, which I do not understand:
MAC address filtering HOW AND WHERE
IP address filtering HOW AND WHERE
DHCP server HOW AND WHERE
ipconfig HOW AND WHERE
firewall setting HOW AND WHERE
tcp/ip corruption HOW AND WHERE

Also, could this happen because my modem is not in bridge mode? I have some information stating that my modem should be in bridge mode (with the internet light off) or some sort of interference or conflict could occur. Could this be a factor?

I have to draw a diagram about small office network, it has 5 desktop computer, a printer, a fax, a server, a hub. And it uses a high speed DSL for internet connection.
I don't know what order should be, is it
1. The server-DSL modem-firewall-internet? or
2. Server-firewall-DSL modem-internet? or
3. Server-router-firewall-internet? or
4. Server-firewall-router-internet? or how??

I should use DSL modem or a router or both??

Someone please help me if you know something about it..

Thank you..

I've got a old Gateway laptop running Windows 98 with a internal modem. I'd like to be able to have internet access at hotels or hot spots around town. What options do I have and what hardware/software would I need? I have a couple of usb ports, I'd prefer to use that if I could. Speed isn't a big issue, I'd mostly use it for email.

First off I connect to a router then to the modem. I already tried the 192.168.0.1 and that couldn't be found. I have a Motorola 5B5101 SurfBoard cable modem, and my router is a Linksys WRT54GS version 4 wireless router. I basically want to connect to my modem and open some ports that got closed for some reason (port 21 mainly). From what I know i need the modems external IP address to access it because there is a router in teh middle, but I don't know how to get it. So if you have any idea I can find out my modems external ip address or access my modem another way please leave an answer
