I have a Linksys Wireless G router and My husband just brought in a Netgear Wireless router that has the same MBPS and is also a G router. Which one is the better one. Weve been using the linksys and my laptop isnt getting any better than good signal. Do you think the Netgear one might be better?

Linksys is better in my opinion. Try setting your router higher up in the room. Change your channel to 1,6 or 11.
Change Beacon Rate to 50 and Fragmentaion and RTS hresholds to 2304.
Don't play with dd-wrt unless your warranty is gone. Performing this change can "Brick" your router.

both of these are namebrand and are generally highly rated. I would try the Netgear 9your husband has probably already started to install it.

If the new router doesn't help, it is probably due to some other factor. Do you live in a mansion where your router is more than 500 feet from your laptop? (have your butler carry you closer to the server)

Is your laptop old (2 or 3 years)? Try updating the drivers on your wireless hardware.

Do you live under high voltage wires? Are you trying to download porn or other video-rich content? Are your walls extra-thick? Is your head or any other body part extra-thick? Some of these could affect the performance of your wireless connection.

Bottom Line, try moving your laptop in various locations (not on you lap - in different rooms of your house).

If they are both "g" then they are the same. One of the thing that "g" signifies is the signal strength. Neither will more than the other. What you need to do is move the router to a location physically high and central to your home.

If you notice wireless access points in places like libraries, airports etc... they are always attached to a ceiling or other physically high location.

Maybe you can put it on top of a book case or something.

Most definitely Netgear. It's the only one that I know of that can take care of a lot of the hassle when it comes to networking all by itself. It does have a downside of being out of date if you computer runs Vista 64 bit. Otherwise, Netgear is easiest to use. Customer Support is great too.

I'm not sure I completely understand what you're saying, but from what I gather, your neighbor is trying to use your connection wirelesly. If this is the case, you have to remember that the routers have a limited range, especially when the signal has obstructions such as walls in the way. I tried something similar once. My computer could barely "see" the signal from across the street, but it just wasn't strong enough to do anything with.

In my view, Linksys is superior to Netgear.
