if i upgrade to winxp, from win2000, without reformating, will the logins and other settings like printer remain?

xp has a lot of updates concerning infections and the people in that office really need it.they need anything that will help.i've already thrown some scanners in their direction like nod32,kaspersky and bitdefender..the boss upgraded to 1 gig of ram to each pc too..

yes it's a pretty seemless upgrade. The only question I have is why? If it's an older computer, you are probably better off with 2000. They are basically the same OS, only Xp has more eye candy and better hardware recognition on the install. The system requirements are higher on XP so it might slow an older computer down. Under the hood, they are both identical. If you got 2000 running and everything is working, I's save the money and leave it alone.

Usually an upgrade to XP from 2000 will retain settings. Of course NOTHING is without fail. Prepare ahead of time just in case.

Don't you mean "Downgrade"? Why would you want to go back to Windows 2000?
