Our Xbox 360 is about 20 ft away from my modem, through two floors. What would I need to create an efficient wireless network that could hopefully make the 360 or whatever is close to it a Wi-fi port and how much would it cost? Specific products would be helpful

Im getting a file/application server with Windows 2003 server on it for a small business office (less than 30 PCs+devices). Im also getting 30 CALs and the total runs to almost $3k.

Is there any other MANDATORY software or license i might need. (Im only using this machine to share files and construction software, no hosting or anything...and im on a secured network with a firewall)

If a netgear prosafe vpn firewall (fvs 318) is set to turn of http for a period of time everyday on a network, is there a way to get around it, to get on the internet? Can you configure, reroute some settings, or get some software to get around it?

The one I currently have is a bit expensive. I know there are some that charge about $10 a month, but charge $2. per minute when you call for technical issues. So, what do you have, how much do you pay, and do you recommend it?

How can you find your own IP address?
If using a wireless connection with a router how does it know the IP? If the connection was used already would trying to use another wireless connection conflict? Can a third party change an IP ? Anything other info that would help with IP addresses would be very grateful, Thanks.

I never lost cable, and when the electricity came back on, I still had cable, all the lights on my modem where on and working fine, including the one called "cable", and my cable tv worked fine. The problem is the light called "data" that is usually constantly flashing is now off completely and I cannot connect to the internet, even though my computer says everything is connected fine. Why won't any data transmit through the modem? I tried unplugging and resetting everything, and I still cannot get any data. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

We just installed our first server in our office, with MS Windows Server 2003. We created a domain and each of our computers is now set up as a member of the domain. Previously we were set up as a peer-to-peer Workgroup. I have a laptop, so when I work in the office I login to the domain. But when I'm working on my laptop out of the office, I'm not able to connect to the domain, as I'm not connected to the network. So, how do I login to my laptop when I'm not connected to the domain? I tried yesterday, but it wouldn't let me login with my domain user name & password. So then I logged in to the local computer using the username and password I previously used for my workgroup. This worked, but the problem is that now I do not have access to the files and documents that are stored in my domain account. I'm sure there must be a clean way to work with the laptop in standalone mode. Can someone tell me the best way to do this?

Thank you for your advice.

-Steven

Hi,
I have a Belkin router which is fine when just one item is using the connection but as soon as I switch on my laptop as well as the p.c. the connection is rubbish to the p.c. which my son uses to play Quake so therefore the whole idea of buying the laptop so that I could use it while he is on the computer has gone out of the window. Is there anything else I can buy so that this doesn't happen?

The following I.P address, 80.172.64.70 keeps trying to access my pc via a virtual private network, I googled it and found it was Via Net.Works who are in portugal and have something to do with broadband over there. I am in the UK so I'm a bit puzzled as to why they are trying to access my pc. Has anyone out there let it in and what has happened? Any info will be helpful, thanks.
