I am only 5500 feet away from the nearest verizon central office. I am currently using a 14 foot phone cord connecting from the wall phone jack going into the back of my westell 6100 modem, and I am running a 50 foot ethernet cable from the back of the modem going into the back of my pc. my connection speed is about 2100 to 2300 MB on averge. my package plan is 3.0 MB. I want to get the best possible speed as possible, So if I were to install a phone jack to be localized near my pc, how long should my cables be?

I just got this new Vista Sunday and I am ready to take it right back if I can't get this D-Link gold wireless router to communicate with Vista.
I tried everything. This is how it is connected . Phone wire to the dsl modem. blue ethernet cable from the modem to the ethernet spot on the Router.. A black ethernet cable from the Router to the Ethernet plug on the Computer..... I ran the Dlink setup disk a couple times making sure I had the wires in the right places. Windows vista tells me that there is already a computer on the network with the same IP address. What am I doing wrong? Why doesn't it work. I have not read any thing different than I've already done. unplug cables.. restart .. reset.. nothing is working.
Please help..... Thanks in advance for what ever advice you can give me.. I'm ready to take this back yesterday. This isn't my only issue.. besides it being slower than my 5g computer

Canpt figure out how to configure Win 2000 computer to network with my XP computer. Can't use SP Wizard config disk for a Win 2000 computer. When I attempt to use 2000 computer's network wizard, the choices aren't clear. The choices in Wizard are: Dial-up to private network (usning phone lines), Dial-up to the Internet (using phone line), Connect to a privat network through the internet, Accept incoming connections, Connect to another computer using serial, parallel, or infrared port.. NONE of these seems to allow me to configure for a wireless connection to share computer info or printers. Please note: I do have a Linksys wireless card installed and am able to connect to the internet via my wireless router,BUT I cannot find my other XP computer that has sharing for some folders and printer activated. Please help!
Thanks in advance!!!

Ok, so I've got a new Vista machine and an old XP machine. Firewall is off on both. LLTD is installed on XP machine. In Network Map I can see the XP computer, and both are in the same workgroup. However, I can't actually connect one computer to the other. In XP it tells me I don't have access, and in Vista although I can see it in Network Map the XP comp doesn't appear in "View Computers and Devices." Any help?

We have a 4 story house with me in the basement (1) and the router on the 3rd. Wireless signal is crap anyway but down in my room due to fire regulations the ceiling has extra fireproof layers in it which makes the signal even worse.

My mum will not let me run a ethernet cable from the router to my room plus one that long would cost a fortune anyway so please this is NOT an option.

I have a phone line socket in my room (basement) so is it possible to connect a hub or something from this socket in my room as well as the 3rd floor so I can get better signal and use ethernet cables or will this confuse the DSL coming in my house?

I was running a Windows 2000 computer connected with a wire to a Dlink WBR-1310 Wireless Router, and the second computer (Win 2K) was connected to it wirelessly. I bought a Vista Home Premium rig with onboard ethernet, and thought the internet would work like butter - but it didnt - i could not connect to the internet through the router. The wireless Win 2000 system works though. When i connect my Vista computer directly to the modem, it works - and Dlink has been no help whatsoever, with all their static IPs and settings not helping one bit - I heard that this is a common problem, and that the solution was to go out and get a Linksys WRT54G - but a Futureshop expert told me it was the configuration that is the problem.
Please help me!?

ps. I even downloaded the UASutility that emulates IE 6 - it didnt work.

I just got a Belkin wireless G to replace a Linksys that fried. I use Cisco VPN to get at my work's internal website. Over the weekend I changed to the Belkin router and at the same time a particular server I need to get to changed to https (secure).

I can't get onto the server anymore. I can SSH into it via PuTTY, but I can't put the browser (IE) on it (or Firefox). This wasn't an issue, I don't think, with the LinkSys, although the server wasn't https, so I can't say that for a fact.

That said, the router log is showing a DoS (Denial of Service) / RST block for the times I tried (and failed) to get to the server, so my guess is the router is blocking it.

The Belkin doesn't seem have a way to disable the firewall, although I did try to place my machine in a DMZ, but to no avail. There are some passthrough things I can use, but I tried putting the MAC address for the Cisco adapter in it, and it made no difference.

(Yes, I have to use IE for this particular application). Thnx.

I'm having some issues with my home network, I renamed a pc and it now shows both pc names in my "entire network" I cannot figure out how to delete the old name I have tried everything and searched the net for hours.

So, how can I get my pc's back the were they were before I ran the windows XP newwork wizard? I would like to start all over with a fresh workgroup and not have the old mshome show up.
