I was running a Windows 2000 computer connected with a wire to a Dlink WBR-1310 Wireless Router, and the second computer (Win 2K) was connected to it wirelessly. I bought a Vista Home Premium rig with onboard ethernet, and thought the internet would work like butter - but it didnt - i could not connect to the internet through the router. The wireless Win 2000 system works though. When i connect my Vista computer directly to the modem, it works - and Dlink has been no help whatsoever, with all their static IPs and settings not helping one bit - I heard that this is a common problem, and that the solution was to go out and get a Linksys WRT54G - but a Futureshop expert told me it was the configuration that is the problem.
Please help me!?

ps. I even downloaded the UASutility that emulates IE 6 - it didnt work.

a danger difficulty with IP conflict. I had an same difficulty with XpPro device. Traced it to having a similar default IP address for both the router and the modem i become using. maximum circumstances homestead windows would override the IP on the router, and there will be no difficulty. from time to time, homestead windows would fail to override the IP,and that i'd get a conflict, which close down my information superhighway. replaced the default IP on the router to a diverse quantity, and difficulty went away. gained't sparkling up your difficulty, yet must be an uncomplicated attempt once you've get entry to to the routers administration panel through you browser.

Now do you believe me when I recommend not getting Vista? If you dont believe me yet, you will after you find out What ELSE wont work with Vista. The best answer to your question is to dump Vista and get kubuntu, for free at www.kubuntu.org and be free of the 114,000 viruses that infect Windows but do not infect kubuntu.
