usually when a router has a USB connector on it, this is used for connecting it to your PC if you don't have an ethernet port. like it does on my safecom router.
Not for connecting a storage device to as mentioned above.
there are some wireless routers that do not have a built in modem so do connect to one by USB but i am not sure on the make and i have very rarely come accross them.
the only place i do remember seeing one of these is from an internet phone supplier whioch worked in this way. but yet again i forget the name of them as it was a while ago.

you need to attempt this: connect usb modem to pc, pc through twisted pair to router, config the computer to sharethe usb connection, conf the router WAN interface in route of the computer, the router LAN interface must be used for the different pc's to connect. playstation : you are able to likely percentage the internet with the completed community this kind.

No, if your router has a USB port it's probably for connecting some sort of external storage.
Ethernet connects to the modem.

There are some, not many routers out there that support the usb connection. However, I would not recommend it.
