Can I install a second drive inside my machine to continually back up the first, in case it fails? I a Core Duo machine running XP SP2.

My whole business is on the machine and losing that data would be devastating.

I have a gateway MX6128

1.50 GHz
Intel Celeron M
248MB of RAM
XP Home

I tried a bunch of hardware cleaners/antispyware/antivirus(ccleaner, windows defender, adaware, windirstat, auslogics disk defrag, avg, spyware doctor, ect.)

I think the problem is my RAM. Should I upgrade it? and if yes, 1GB or 2GB?

I'm a high school student and looking to buy a laptop. A fairly cheap one, in the $700 - 1100 range (NZ currency) but not a mac.

It would be for playing some games, a medium amount of music but mainly stories and assignments.

What are things that I should look out for when deciding?
And could someone explain some of the basic techinical language?
Lol I feel like a noob.. :P

Whats the minimum amount of space I should buy, in your opinion?

Oh! And what's the difference between a notebook and a laptop?

Where would I find a laptop for under the 800 dollar mark for courier delivery to QLD brisbane, I want to buy it online for the best price and i want a 200gb hard drive or more and it should be cheap cheap cheap!!!

-On average, how much RAM should Windows Vista Home Premuim take up, using McAfee (which is a huge memory hog).

Right now with no applications running besides McAfee and sound etc in the backround, I'm using between 800-1100 MBs. Is this normal?

-Also I find that my processor sounds like it's working really hard for the first 5-10 minutes after bootup, then goes back to normal (quiet). McAfee does take a while to load, but only like 1-2 minutes. So why does my PC sound like it's working for the first 5-10 minutes and then quiets down? (NOT the fan; the processor).

-Also, how do you make Windows Sidebar (where the weather, clock, pictures are) stay there? When I turn off the computer and turn it back on, it's not there and I have to turn it back on myself.

P.S. My specs are:
- 3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz
- 256MB NVIDIA Geforce 8600GTS
- Intel QUAD Core Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (Quad is supposed to be good for multitasking...)

I just got a new laptop the other day. I used to have a desktop. There's an sd card slot and a pc card slot. I use an sd card for my digital camera, but what can it do for my laptop? Also what is a pc card slot? And how do I get wireless internet on my laptop....does my internet service provider have to do it for me?

We have a Netgear EN108 that is failing (8 ports RJ45, one port BNC). Between buildings we have coax cable on BNC connectors, however this cable cannot be replaced. This particular hub and others like are hard to find these days. Is it possible to transition from the BNC coax connector to an RJ45 connector to use in the latest hub/switches? I also notice that they aren't called hubs anymore, but "switches". Are these pretty much the same things as the old hubs (other than speed) or is there any thing special regarding coax cable I need to know? (other than they don't have BNC ports).

I just bought an ipod touch and tried connecting to my 2wire secured home modem. I entered the WEP code in ipod. But when I try to access internet through safari I get error server not found. I also don't get asked for password. I see my 2wire as a network on my ipod. I know that my 2wire works fine as I have several other pcs connected. Any ideas what the problem is?

The last couple days my computer was having trouble starting up. I would press the on button and it would take 5 minutes for the "beep" to sound, and the monitor to get affected.

Then today I turn my computer on and a nasty toxic burning smell started emitting from my computer. I dont know what happened! but I immediately turn the computer off and put it outside.

Ah what happened? How to fix?

I have the Sony Vaio VGN NR 180 E/W. The Front Side Bus (FSB) is 667 Mhz. In consideration for the memory upgrade (it has Vista with only 1 GB of Memory), should I get the 800 Mhz even though the FSB is only 667 Mhz? I do not wish to go inside the BIOS. Thanks for your help!

well i ordered my very first build last week. And well only a couple had arrived today which was the psu, case, mobo. I wanted to test the fans and psu so i connected it to the mobo. I connected the mobo to the case/psu but the mobo did not include any screws but the case did. So i used the screw but i didnt know at the time that i was suppose to use the golden risers i thought i could use them as the screws. So i placed the mobo on the case. Am i screwed? IM really scared and i wont really know until i get the rest of my stuff tomorrow.
