At any given clock speed, the core 2 duo will be faster, but you need to factor in the graphics chipset - AMD laptops often have Nvidia or ATI graphics chipsets, while lower end Intel laptops nearly always have the Intel integrated graphics, which don't measure up.

They are both solid, reliable brands of processors. For a normal, not hardcore computer user, it doesn't make a huge difference, both AMD and Intel are good enough that it doesn't really matter. Right now Intel chips are a little bit faster, and AMD chips a little bit cheaper. AMD use to be way better Intel, back when Intel had those really crappy Pentium 3 and Pentium 4 chips, but times have changed. Intel shot ahead of AMD when they started making the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo chips, and AMD has just been struggling to keep up with Intel ever since. When picking a laptop, you should just focus on features like weight, battery life, screen size, screen brightness, and screen viewing angle. The other technical specs of all brand new computers are pretty much all "faster and bigger than you will ever need".

They are the same. 1.6 ghz = 1.6 ghz. The only thing for you to decide is by preference. Personally, I would pic Intel Core 2 Duo because it is supposed to be more advanced that the Turion. I used both and I haven't noticed much difference.

I beleive that the Intel Core 2 Duo laptop is the better of the two. Core 2 Duo is the best in the Dual Core market and it's really powerful.
nVidia graphics cards are also quite good, and sometimes are better that the competing ATI products.

Core 2 Duo. Performance per watt is better and it runs cooler. I have a Turion x2 HP Laptop here that I could use as a space heater when doing anything intensive. Furthermore, for gaming you should also be concerned with the video card.

The Intel C2D will have superior performance and battery life. also the Turion-based laptop has an inferior video adapter. With that said, the 8400M is no great shakes when it comes to gaming. I'd look for a lappy with a 8600M GPU or better.

Personal preference: Intel, especially for CPU hogging applications such as games. While AMD may be cheaper, I wouldn't call it a better value. Check out YouTube for Intel versus AMD tests. While the speed may be the same, the quality isn't.
Good luck & happy gaming.
